"Best Historic Locations in Macau" Created by: Cityseeker 5 Locations Bookmarked Mountain Fortress "Four Centuries of History" This old fort, built early in the seventeenth century, was constructed by Jesuits as part of the nearby St Paul's complex. Its role in Macau's history is vital; the canons were only fired once, at the Dutch when they invaded in 1622; the first governors of Macau resided in the fort. In 1998, the Macau Museum was built in the side of the fort. The fort's platform now is by Robert Lowe a garden with fantastic panoramic views of the city. Other attractions include the original cannons, which line the fortress walls, and a reflecting pool at the side of the main fortress building.
