Increases in the room occupancy rates were recorded in 7 of the 9 provinces. KwaZulu-Natal recorded the largest increase in the room occupancy rate (+10,8%), followed by Mpumalanga (+8,5%) and Northern Cape (+4,9%). Increases in the bed occupancy rates were recorded in 8 of the 9 provinces. KwaZulu-Natal recorded the largest increase in the bed occupancy rate (+10,9%), followed by Mpumalanga (+7,9%) and Free State (+5,3%). The total hotel income for August 2001 increased by 4,3% compared with August 2000. Increases in the room occupancy rate were recorded in 20 of the 25 tourism regions for August 2001 compared with August 2000 (cf. table B, column 2). Durban and Umhlanga tourism region recorded the largest increase in the room occupancy rate (+15,3%), followed by Drakensberg tourismregion (+14,2%) and Mpumalanga tourism region (+8,5%). Large decreases were recorded by Pietermaritzburg and Midlands tourism region (-16,0%), Breede River tourism region (-6,8%) and Cape Metropole tourism region (-4,8%). Increases in the bed occupancy rate were recorded in 20 of the 25 tourism regions during the above- mentioned period (cf. table B, column 3). Durban and Umhlanga tourismregion recorded the largest increase in the bed occupancy rate (+16,3%), followed by Drakensberg tourismregion (+13,5%), West Coast tourism region (+7,9%) and Mpumalanga tourism region (+7,9%). Large decreases were recorded by Pietermaritzburg and Midlands tourism region (-15,5%), Breede River tourism region (-6,5%) and Cape Metropole tourism region (-5,5%). Increases in total hotel income were recorded in 20 of the 25 tourism regions during the above-mentioned period (cf. table B, column 4). Durban and Umhlanga tourism region recorded the largest increase in total hotel income (+17,9%), followed by Wineland tourism region (+17,7%) and Drakensberg tourism region (+15,5%).
