Consolidated Contents of The American Genealogist Volumes 9-85; July, 1932 - October, 2011 Compiled by, and Copyright © 2010-2013 by Dale H. Mr. Cook may be reached at: [email protected] This file reproduces Mr. Cook’s index as revised August 22, 2013. A few words about the format of this file are in order. The first eight volumes of Jacobus' quarterly are not included. They were originally published under the title The New Haven Genealogical Magazine, and were consolidated and reprinted in eight volumes as as Families of Ancient New Haven (Rome, NY: Clarence D. Smith, Printer, 1923-1931; reprinted in three volumes with 1939 index Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1974). Their focus was upon the early families of that area, which are listed in alphabetical order. With a few exceptions this file begins with the ninth volume, when the magazine's title was changed to The American Genealogist and New Haven Genealogical Magazine and its scope was expanded. The title was shortened to The American Genealogist in 1937. The entries are listed by TAG volume. Each volume is preceded by the volume number and year(s) in boldface. Articles that are carried across more than one volume have their parts listed under the applicable volumes. This entry, from Volume 10, will illustrate the format used: 10 (1933-34):35-40, 101-104, 166-170, 215-217 (Cont. from 9:233, cont. to 11:30) New London (Conn.) Probate Records: Abstract of Files/Wills Before 1710 Donald Lines Jacobus The first line of an entry for an individual article or portion of a series shows the TAG pages for an article found in that volume. When a series spans more than one volume a note in parentheses indicates the volume and page from which or to which it is continued. If additions or corrections were later printed those are shown in square brackets. The second line shows the title of the article, and the third line lists the author. Many articles have no author listed, and were presumably the work of the editor. I have listed only articles with genealogical or historical content of interest to the genealogical researcher. I have not included articles and series such as "Book Reviews" (although some review articles are included because of content) or the queries in "Queries and Answers" (but the answers are included). Some short items are consolidated under the heading "Notes" (or a variant thereof) in each volume. Other departments, such as "Family Records," are also consolidated under their department headings. Some editorials are included which prent valuable information concerning research methodology. Articles from The New Haven Genealogical Magazine (Volumes 1-8) are included only when they are of general interest, such as gravestone transcriptions or other records. Those are listed in the first section and the volume and page numbering used is that of the reprint Families of Ancient New Haven as more readers will have access to the reprint than to the original volumes. This file will be revised as each new issue of TAG is published. Please address any corrections or reports of piracy to the compiler at the email address given above.
