A masterpiece quilt created by Sharon was raffled with phenomenal success, with nearly 4000 tickets purchased by people from throughout South Australia, Australia and even overseas. The raffle was drawn by visionary Jamestown community member Robert Stacey, who was the driving force behind establishment of the Jamestown Presents a 3 COURSE DINNER Hydrotherapy Pool in 2003. The girls are travelling to Cambodia in September with teacher Danya McKay to learn about life in a third world country. Working for all Trish was a foundation member when Soroptimists was established 29 years ago. Following her untimely death, members decided to initiate the award people in Stuart to honour her memory. The award has been generously supported by the Noonan family, and by Soroptimist’s fundraising. Trish was the second of eight children. ROUND FIVE – 18TH AUGUST RACE RESULTS
We held our fifth round of Racing on the 18th August at Harris Park. A huge day with 55 cars and over 58 drivers nominated. The day ran smoothly with great action packed and close racing in all grades. Non-stop all day, we pushed through all heats without stopping and our second round of the Ron Harris memorial feature race was a success. It was a sensational effort by all. The canteen and bar were busy all day. Food was awesome and the drinks were flowing. Thank you to our emergency services volunteers and too all our volunteers and sponsors, we couldn’t run such great race days without you!
A big thank you to Jamestown Engineering for supplying the stairs, Jeff Rowe Transport for the loan of the crane, Elbow Renovations and J&B Gibb Electrical for all your help and another big thank you to everyone who has assisted us around the track during our working bees. The first stage of the tower & observation platform is looking great and will be a massive benefit to the club and our race meetings. We are looking forward our double header in September with Round 6 on Sunday 15th September and the Outback Burnouts Comp on Saturday 21st September!

Barney played a lot of sport in his day, including playing football and swimming for Orroroo, basketball in Peterborough, cricket for Pekina, Kelly and Waddikee, and umpired 150 football games. He was a great competitor on the field and only too happy to discuss the game with his opposition long after the final siren. Always competitive – always sociable – a pretty good mix. Barney notched up 286 games of senior footy, won four premierships, represented Northern Areas Football Association in many games and was in Orroroo Football Club’s Team of the 25 Years. Barney played more than 350 games of cricket, winning 13 premierships at Orroroo and 2 at Kimba Barney was a sound striker of a cricket ball and broke many bats in his time whacking balls over the boundary. None was more special to Barney than playing in team with his son Jake at Waddikee, needing 4 off the last ball to win the Grand Final. With everyone on the boundary, he used his great timing to sail one over their heads for 6. It is no wonder Barney needed a new hip and two new knees in recent years. Barney was a devoted family man who loved life and the people around him. He was an avid supporter of Bev’s florist business, helping out whenever he was home. He followed Jake, Courtney and Gabrielle’s sporting endeavours, professional careers and personal interests with great pride, and let his kids know how much he loved them at every chance he got. A gentle, kind and humble man, selfless to his core. Barney passed away on July 30th, aged just 66 years. Rest in Peace Barney.
