I. ARCHITECTURE.

1. Bailey (Rosalie Fellows): Pre-revolutionary Dutch houses and families in northern New Jersey and southern New York.... Photography by Margaret de M. Brown. Prepared under the auspices of the Holland Society of New York. New York: Morrow, 1936. (Chief stress is laid on the biographical and genealogical aspects of the subject. There is no technical discussion of architecture or structural development, but a thorough survey is given of all existing houses, which are described, illustrated and dated as far as possible).

2. Dirck Barentz. - Pigler (Andrew): Dirck Barentz (1534-92) - Scene from the Old - Testament - Budapest, Museum of Fine Art Pen in bistre, etc. Drawings, Dec. 1936, XI, pp. 47-8, illus. (Depicts a rare subject from Kings II, ch. 13, v. 20-21, the resurrection of a man whose body was cast into the sepulchre of Elisha. The artist has hitherto been unidentified. The writer makes comparison with his other work, and draws attention to an apparent signature and what is possibly a documentary reference to the drawing). - 3. Rembrandt. - Kurz (Otto): Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) - Study of a lion - Vienna, coll. Liechtenstein Pen and wash, etc. Old Master Drawings, Dec. 1936, XI, pp. 51-2, illus. (A drawing not listed by Hofstede de Groot. The date of the group of lion studies is discussed in relation to the etchings of St. Jerome, the Great Lion Hunt and the Political Allegory). 4. Rembrandt. - Hind (Arthur Mayger): Rembrandt and recent acquisitions. British Museum Quarterly, March 1936, X, pp. 86-8, illus. (Discusses drawings of A seated woman and A woman standing, ascribed to Rembrandt, a Calvary by Antonio Tempesta similar to Rembrandt's Three Crosses, and A street musician in the museum, previously ascribed to Jan Victors but now transferred to Nicolaas Maes on the ground of its resemblance to the Street musician in the collection of H. Schaeffer). - 5. Barent Fabritius. Rosenberg (Jacob): Barent Fabritius (1624-1673) - Christ and - the Apostles arriving in Emmaus - Wessenberg Gallery, Constance Pen and brown ink, etc. Old Master Drawings, March 1936, X, p. 67, illus. (An addition to the lists of Falck, Lugt and Valentiner. The drawing has been attributed to Gerbrand van den Eeckhout, but is here recognized as a companion to the Journey to Emmaus in Berlin).

(Design for a glass roundel, retouched in the style of Rubens. Characteristics of the draperies are discussed, and reference is made to several similar works). - 8. Dierick Vellert. Dodgson (Campbell): Dierick Vellert (c. 1485-1544) - An incident in the life of St. Bruno - London, collection of Mr. Leonard Duke - Pen and Indian ink wash, etc. Old Master Drawings, March 1936, X, p. 66, illus. (Design for a glass roundel. The subject is explained). - 9. Hieronymus Cock. Stechow (Wolfgang): Two drawings by Hieronymus Cock. Old Master Drawings, Dec. 1936, XI, pp. 40-41, illus. (The Rape of Helen in the British Museum, related to the Death of Procris in the collection of F. Lugt and the Rape of Europa in the Louvre, and ascribed by Popham to Matthys Cock, is here transferred to Hieronymus. The new attribution is supported by a comparison with the Landscape with ruins in the Victoria & Albert Museum which has been given correctly to Hieronymus because of its affinities with some of his etchings). - 10. Joris Hoefnagel. - Russell (A. G. B.): Joris Hoefnagel (1545-c. 1618) Progress of Q. Elizabeth to Nonsuch Palace - Dover, collection of P. P. Stevens - Pen drawing tinted with water-colour.
