Now most of us have less money to share, so we might be looking for other ways to make our world a better place. There are hundreds of local organizations that need volunteers, and most of us have pitched in, at least occasionally. But I would like to share some creative ideas that might give you additional inspiration. The Turquoise Table started right here in Austin, when Kristin Schell painted her old picnic table turquoise and dragged it into her front yard. That table became a meeting place for neighbors, friends and strangers to hang out, and has spurred a front yard revival, a welcoming place to gather and share life, love, laughter, and tears. Turquoise tables are appearing all over (as far away as Uganda), as places for peo- ple to gather and support each other. Kristin’s website has a quotation from William Butler Yeats: “There are no strang- ers here; only friends you have not met.” During this era of online friends, having a human at the table is very appealing. Two other sharing opportunities that I love are “Little Hello, RFSA members! I hope your summer was relaxing Free Libraries” and “Blessing Boxes”. Anyone can put a Lit- and recharging, that your fall was filled with the fun activ- tle Free Library in their front yard (or community center or ities that we all enjoy as the weather cools a little, and that church or wherever), a small box with a clear door, and stock your winter, so far, has been filled with the warmth of family it with books for all ages. A Blessing Box is opportunities to become involved at whatever level you a cousin to the Little Free Library, a place to leave food and want. I think all of us enjoy our Fall and Spring Luncheons, personal care items for those who might need them. Many generously hosted by President Fenves. They are a chance communities have food banks, but sometimes people just to catch up with former colleagues while enjoying delicious need enough food to feed their children that night. Those who attended the Fall Luncheon got to hear Kevin Tuerff and his amazing story of how 9/11 changed his life and how that tragic event continues to lead him in unexpected directions. His compassion and generosity of spirit were inspirational to all of us. Particularly in this time of mean-spirited political division, it is even more important to practice kindness to others and give back 4 | SITES.UTEXAS.EDU/RFSA 102631 TxExes RFSA NL.indd 4 12/21/17 13:18 SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Our sponsors have been solicited because of their excellent reputations in selling the best goods and providing the best service to customers. Many of them are family businesses that have been in our community for a long time. These include the Covert family of auto dealerships, the Strand family of Stan’s A/C, the Ravel family of Karavel Shoes, the Goff family of Mr. Appliance, and the Fish family of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes. Our other sponsors, although not family owned, have a longtime reputation for giving wonderful service to the com- munity. They are St. David’s HealthCare, University Federal Credit Union, and the Westminster Retirement Communi- ty. And please give a warm welcome to our newest sponsors: Fast Park & Relax, providing fast, easy and economical offsite parking at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport; and Aus- tin Hearing Services, offering state-of-the-art comprehensive hearing health care. Through their sponsorships, these businesses help us keep our membership dues low and provide support to UT students through the RFSA Scholarship Fund. When you need goods or services, please consider using them; it will be a win-win-win situation for you, for them and for RFSA. And when you use them, please let them know that you belong to RFSA, and that we appreciate their support. UT NROTC ALUMNI FOUNDATION P.O. Box 143562 Austin, TX 78714-3562 Forwarding Service Requested The official message board of the University of Texas NROTC Alumni Foundation Volume 12, Issue 3 August 2007 WWII Alumni Reunion and Personal Histories Interviews/Recordings WWII Alumni – We Need Your Votes and Feedback The 2007 WWII Alumni Reunion will bring us a giant step closer to capturing the individual personal experiences of our UTN- ROTC shipmates during World War Two. For the first time, this reunion will offer individual video recorded interviews of WWII alumni on their wartime experiences. (You will remember that during last year’s reunion we had a group recording of 18 WWII alumni who attended a special record- ing session.) And for the first time, the UT Institute for Military History Studies, part of the University’s Center for American History Stud- ies, will conduct the interviews. We’re having video recording. The Institute will then archive them, along with last year’s audio and other official record data, to make them available for future research and to use excerpts eventually in a web-based historical presentation. The Institute hopes to make this the first chapter in a book about UT ROTC members who have served their country in time of war. Wow!! And that is on top of an expanded plan of casual, purely social settings where alumni can visit prior to the traditional Friday dinner social at the Austin Country Club. Saturday the Board and General Membership will meet, as in past years, followed by a BarBQ. In This Issue The Drury Inn & Suites will be the Alumni Reunion hotel for all alumni from WWII classes to the present.

  • Emergency Operations Plan 2019
Emergency Operations Plan 2019 Version XIII Letter of Promulgation The University of Texas at Austin is committed to protecting the welfare of its community members as well as its intellectual property and facilities. For this reason, the associate vice president for Campus Safety and Security has developed the Emergency Management Plan. With this plan, the university strives to minimize the impact of emergencies and maximize the effectiveness of the campus community’s response to and recovery from their inevitable occurrence. We can best prepare to meet the enormous challenges emergencies present by working together. Thus, The University of Texas at Austin expects individual departments to develop their own detailed plans to effectively organize, coordinate, and direct available resources toward emergency response and recovery. As such, the Emergency Management Plan includes a chain of command that establishes the authority and responsibilities of campus officials and staff members. The plan also requires departments to designate emergency coordinators who will have the authority to make modifications in emergency procedures and commit resources to emergency preparedness as necessary. The Emergency Management Plan is designed to help university employees respond appropriately when emergency conditions exist. Although these situations are unpredictable, this plan allows for an immediate response by university employees, thereby minimizing danger to our campus. Every member of The University of Texas at Austin community should understand his or her role in emergency situations. Please review this manual so you can support your colleagues and protect our students, faculty, staff, and visitors should an emergency arise. Thank you, Gregory L. Fenves President The University of Texas at Austin Record of Distribution This plan is available to the entire University of Texas at Austin through electronic distribution and is published at http://preparedness.utexas.edu.
