### RICHMOND HILL WELCOMES REEL ASIAN: KONG’S HIGHEST GROSSING FILM IN 2010

Toronto, September 13, 2010 – The Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival (Reel Asian) is proud to include the community of Richmond Hill in their fall festival for the first time ever. In partnership with The Reel Thing, Reel Asian will co-present the premiere of ’s highest grossing film released in the first half of 2010, blockbuster IP MAN 2 (葉問 2).

IP MAN 2 tells the story of Ip Man, champion of the martial arts style and master of . After saving the southern city of Fo Shan from Japanese invaders in the first film, Ip Man () returns and relocates to Hong Kong, which is under British colonial rule. His desire to open a new martial arts school and live peacefully with his family is put to the test when he is confronted by the other Masters, including Master Hung ( 洪金寶 ) who has been collecting protection fees and sharing the profits with a corrupt British officer.

When the officer decides to host the “King of Competition”, East meets West, racial tensions flare and the reputation of Wushu is at stake. Ultimately, the pride of the Chinese people once again falls in the hands of Master Ip and we are reminded of the legend who advocated for the harmonious principles of the art form.

Actor Donnie Yen Donnie Yen (甄子丹 ) is an , action choreographer, director and producer. He was born in Guandong Province, China and spent time in Hong Kong and before returning to Hong Kong. His mother ran the internationally acclaimed Chinese Wushu Research Institute and trained him as a young child. Yen would start as a actor before breaking into the film business as a leading star with his own martial arts style. Yen has gained international recognition for appearing alongside other prominent such as and . He has starred in over 45 films including Ip Man, , Hero, Iron Monkey and Once Upon a Time in China. Most recently, Yen won the 2010 Best Actor Award for at the 19th Film Critics Award, and Channel V’s 14th Chinese Music Influential International Asian Actor Award and Asian Influence Award.

Director Wilson Yip Wai-Shun (葉偉信 ) is a Hong Kong actor, filmmaker and screenwriter and has directed twenty films since 1995. Ip Man was nominated for 12 Hong Kong Film awards and won for Best Film and Best Action Choreography. Yip also won the 2000 Best Screenplay Awards at the 2000 Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards for Bullets Over Summer. His films include Bio , The White Dragon, SPL: Sha Po Lang, , Flash Point, and Ip Man.
