Female State Championship Official, Congratulations on being appointed as an Under-14 Female State Championship official for your team. With the success of the WBBL last season we hope to see even more girls use the State Championship competition as a springboard to this level and become future representative players. Female Cricket at a youth level continues to flourish, in no small part due to the efforts of various female development officers and team officials from within particular regions, as well as the work of our Game & Market Development staff including our wonderful Regional Cricket Managers. These Championships have continued to prosper in the standard of play and general standing in the Victorian Cricket Program, and it is hoped this year we will again see further improvements in the skill sets and game sense on show. With two Victorian teams in the WBBL – Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars – the competition provides a clear pathway for female cricketers from grassroots to elite with Junior Female Development Grants being introduced by Cricket Victoria supporting the pathway by enabling more opportunities for girls to play cricket at grassroots level. Last year we saw previous State Championship players Sophie Molineux and Alana King to name just two, make a real impact in their debut WBBL season and our Victorian Under 18 Female State side has an amazing national Carnival as well, returning home with the title for only the second time. Our Victorian Under 15 side also had great success winning seven out of eight games to finish 3rd in the National Championships. This manual has been designed to provide all involved with a comprehensive overview of what is required of officials before, during and after the competition. Please take note of the rules summary for season 2016/17. We wish you and your team all the best for the Under 14 Female State Championships. It was the tight bowling by the Victorians that contained the New South Wales batters and won the match. In November 2007 a series of five matches were played as part of a women’s interstate T20 tournament. Each state played two matches but no final was programmed. The participating teams were New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. TO BE THE LEADING SPORT FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS In line with our commitment to be openly accountable for ongoing progress towards becoming the Leading Sport For Women And Girls, welcome to the third Australian Cricket Press For Progress Report. Starting with defending a Women’s Ashes overseas, continuing with the first standalone season of the rebel Women’s Big Bash League, and culminating in the record-breaking final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on International Women’s THE Day, this year belongs to so many: the current generation of professional athletes, the generations past who gave so much, the future generations who can see what is possible, and the countless players, volunteers, coaches, families and friends, fans and administrators who have built the involvement and inclusion of women and girls in our great game piece by piece. GREATEST As we continue our journey towards being a truly gender equal sport, evidence tells IN THE HISTORY OF THE us that a record number of Australians are on this journey with us. More girls are playing cricket than ever before. Cricket is viewed as more gender inclusive than WOMEN’S ELITE GAME ever before. The Australian Women’s Team has been named as our country’s most IN AUSTRALIA loved sports team. But owning our challenges is also a fundamental part of our commitment to YEAR transparency, and the highs of this past year were quickly followed by significant lows as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic spread globally. This once-in-a-century event is being felt throughout our game, and it will take deliberate and ongoing focus to ensure that perfect night at the MCG in March continues to inspire and attract more women and girls to cricket.
