Opening remarks and review of schedule and agenda. Division III Championships Committee Chair Kiki Jacobs welcomed committee members and reviewed the meeting schedule and key discussion items. 2. Recent committee reports. The committee reviewed and approved a combined report from its May 5, 7 and 12 electronic votes as presented. 3. Governance update. NCAA staff reviewed the following key items with the committee: (1) next steps following the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Alston case; (2) update on student- athlete name, image and likeness concepts being considered by various groups within the NCAA membership; (3) national office staff support and NCAA website reorganization; (4) Division III budget update; (5) COVID-19 resources and resocialization guidelines; (6) Division III strategic-positioning platform; (7) Division III Football Concussion Task Force; (8) student-athlete enrollment/athletics participation waiver for the 2021-22 academic year; (9) Division III legislative proposals in the cycle for the 2022 NCAA Convention; (10) resources and best practices available to help prevent sexual violence; and (11) LGBTQ recognition awards. 4. Division III Management Council update. Holly Sheilley provided an update from the Management Council’s recent meetings. 5. Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee update. Jaeden Peterson, from the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, sitting in for Bridgett Finn who was unable to attend, provided an update on behalf of the Division III SAAC that included the group’s ongoing review of issues related to student-athlete name, image and likeness, as well as the NCAA gender equity study.

    Policies and Procedures 2020-21 Introduction Last updated February 11, 2021 The Atlantic East Conference looks to pursue practice and/or competition opportunities for all student-athletes during the spring semester of 2021. Each athletic department continues to work closely with key University stakeholders. The health and welfare of our student-athletes, athletic departments and campus communities continue to be the priority. This document contains an outline for what will and will not be allowed within the Atlantic East Conference during the spring semester. All plans in this document are subject to change based on new and emerging information. Health and Safety Protocols Under expert guidance and oversight from Team Physicians, sports medicine staff and Student Health Services providers, the Atlantic East has developed health and safety protocols based around 3 guiding principles: testing, risk minimization, and positive test response standards. In collaboration with sports medicine personnel, athletic administrators and coaches, additional risk minimization strategies have been developed for all spring sports and officials. 1. Testing A. Strategies Testing strategies are designed to be directed toward student-athletes and athletics personnel who have regular, close contact with student-athletes. This group of individuals is considered Tier 1, which is the highest exposure tier. Following is a summary explanation of Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 risk categories, which is based on information in a recently published scientific article in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. Tier 1: This is the highest exposure tier and consists of individuals for whom physical distancing and face coverings are not possible or effective during athletic training or competition.

At the Division I level, outsourcing presents challenges as utilization of a third-party firm can lead to loss of control by athletic administration. The problem statement for this study is whether similar management issues are prevalent within corporate sponsorships at the Division III level of intercollegiate athletics, examining if systems theory could enhance efficiency. This research approach utilizes a survey to ask 50 Division III athletic directors if they engage in corporate sponsorships, who is responsible for overseeing corporate sponsorships at their school, which staff are permitted to solicit businesses and do concerns arise. Applying the results to systems theory, the implications lead to conclusions and recommendations to assist Division III athletic departments better develop this revenue stream. The research also contributes to filling a void in the existing literature within Division III corporate sponsorships.
