WANT YOUR LOCAL CHURCH TO BE THERE….. x Because you want your daughter to be married there x Because you want your children or grandchildren to be christened there x Because you’ve thought your funeral would be there x Because it’s unthinkable for our village not to have a church x Because you support the values the church espouses x Or any other of a hundred other reasons too….. Our church members, who already give generously, and work hard on fund- raising throughout the year, have been asked to increase their giving, so that those who use our churches occasionally (and maybe that’s you) can know that your village church will be here for decades to come. But it costs over £150 per day – per day!- to keep our five parish churches (Askham Richard, Bilbrough, Long Marston, Rufforth, Tockwith) open. So we’re asking our villages to chip in. YOU can support your village church in one of the following ways- x Sponsor your village church for a day (£30) or a week (£210) x Make a one-off gift to your village church, and Gift-Aid it, please (see below) x Leave a legacy to your village church x Make a regular donation to your village church, and if you are a tax-payer, Gift-Aid it, so that the government gives us and extra 25p for every £1 donated. 1DPH«««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««« $GGUHVV«««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««« &RQWDFWGHWDLOV«««««««««««««««««««« 3OHDVHILQGP\JLIWRI«««««««««««HQFORVHG7KLVLVEHFDXVH WLFNDV appropriate) ΀΁/͛ĚůŝŬĞƚŽƐƵƉƉŽƌƚƌĞŐƵůĂƌůLJ͘WůĞĂƐĞĐŽŶƚĂĐƚŵĞƚŽƚĞůůŵĞŚŽǁ/ĐĂŶĚŽƚŚŝƐ͘ ΀΁dŚŝƐŝƐĂŽŶĞͲŽĨĨŐŝĨƚ͘/͛ŵ'ŝĨƚͲŝĚŝŶŐŝƚďLJƚŝĐŬŝŶŐƚŚĞďŽdžŽŶƚŚĞƌŝŐŚƚŚĞƌĞ΀΁ ΀΁dŚŝƐŐŝĨƚŽĨάϯϬǁŝůůƐƉŽŶƐŽƌƚŚĞĐŚƵƌĐŚŝŶ͙͙͙͙͙͙͙͙͙͘͘͘͘;ŶĂŵĞŽĨǀŝůůĂŐĞͿĨŽƌŽŶĞĚĂLJ ΀΁dŚŝƐŐŝĨƚŽĨάϮϭϬǁŝůůƐƉŽŶƐŽƌƚŚĞĐŚƵƌĐŚŝŶ͙͙͙͙͙͙͙͙͙͘͘͘;ŶĂŵĞŽĨǀŝůůĂŐĞͿĨŽƌĂǁĞĞŬ ΀΁/͛ĚůŝŬĞƚŽŬŶŽǁŚŽǁƚŽůĞĂǀĞĂůĞŐĂĐLJƚŽƚŚĞĐŚƵƌĐŚŝŶŵLJǁŝůů͘WůĞĂƐĞĐŽŶƚĂĐƚŵĞ͘ &ŝůůŝŶƚŚĞĨŽƌŵ͕ƚĞĂƌƚŚŝƐƉĂŐĞŽƵƚ͕ĂŶĚƐĞŶĚŝƚƚŽZĞǀ͘ZŽLJ^ŚĂǁĂƚϯϮ͕tĞƐƚĨŝĞůĚZŽĂĚ͕ dŽĐŬǁŝƚŚ͕zŽƌŬzKϮϲϳWz͕ǁŚŽǁŝůůƉĂƐƐŝƚƚŽLJŽƵƌůŽĐĂůĐŚƵƌĐŚ͘ DĂŶLJƚŚĂŶŬƐ͊ŶĚ'ŽĚďůĞƐƐLJŽƵ͕ŚŽǁĞǀĞƌLJŽƵƌĞƐƉŽŶĚ͘ READINGS and PSALMS FEBRUARY 2017 5 The Fifth Sunday of 1st Reading: Isaiah 58 1-9a Epiphany (Green) Psalm: 112. 1-9 2nd Reading: 1 Corinthians 2.1-12 Gospel: Matthew 5. 13-20 12 The Third Sunday 1st Reading: Deuteronomy 30.15-20 Before Lent (Green) Psalm: 119. 1-8 2nd Reading: 1 Corinthians 3. 1-9 Gospel: Matthew 5. 21-37 19 The Second Sunday 1st Reading: Genesis 1.1-23 Before Lent (Green) Psalm: 136 1-9, 23-26 2nd Reading: Romans 8.18-25 Gospel: Matthew 6. 25-34 26 The Sunday next 1st Reading: Exodus 24. 12-18 Before Lent (Green) Psalm: 2 2nd Reading: 2 Peter 1. 16-21 Gospel: Matthew 17.1-9 Note ± Use of Readings a) Holy Communion Services and Morning Worship: Both readings and Gospel b) Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer: Old Testament Reading (First reading) New Testament (The Gospel) c) Services requiring only one reading: The Gospel is used ¶ !¶ !¶ !¶ !¶ !¶ !¶ !¶ ! Netherlands, Fleet Lane, York, YO26 7QE £695,000 Netherlands, Fleet Lane, York £695,000 *A substantial period family home * Original period features * Scope to extend * Excellent for the commuter 5 1 3 Description A substantial double fronted brick built period family home, set in gardens and paddock land of approximately 4.114 acres on the edge of this much sought after, conveniently placed village. A unique period family home which is now in need of complete modernisation and refurbishment, allowing a purchaser to implement their own ideas and standard of finish on a superb detached residence. The property retains some original period features, including cornicing, doors and flooring. The property occupies a particularly large site with gardens on all sides allowing the scope for extension and alteration, subject to obtaining the necessary planning approval. There is also a single garage on site. The property does have the benefit of oil fired central heating, which is powered by the Rayburn in the kitchen, though is now in need of general modernisation and updating. The bathroom has been modernised, however the remaining property will require work. There is a fully operational business which is being sold with the property in the form of Paws and Claws Pet Hotel, where trading accounts are available for inspection upon request. There is the scope to expand that business significantly from its current form, but purpose built dog kennels and cattery are on the site. The licence will need updating for the cattery and would need to be knocked down and replaced to renew the licence for cats.

  • Yorkshire Swale Flood History 2013
Yorkshire Swale flood history 2013 Sources The greater part of the information for the River Swale comes from a comprehensive PhD thesis by Hugh Bowen Willliams to the University of Leeds in 1957.He in turn has derived his information from newspaper reports, diaries, local topographic descriptions, minutes of Local Authority and Highway Board and, further back in time, from Quarter Sessions bridge accounts. The information is supplemented by various conversations which Williams had with farmers who owned land adjacent to the river. Where possible the height of the flood at the nearest cross- section of the place referred to in the notes is given. This has either been levelled or estimated from the available data. Together with the level above Ordnance Datum (feet) and the section in question there is given (in brackets) the height of the flood above normal water level. Information is also included from the neighbouring dales (mainly Wensleydale and Teesdale) as this gives some indication of conditions in Swaledale. Williams indicates that this is by no means a complete list, but probably contains most of the major floods in the last 200 years, together with some of the smaller ones in the last 70 years. Date and Rainfall Description sources 11 Sep 1673 Spate carried away dwelling house at Brompton-on-Swale. Burnsell Bridge on the Wharfe was washed away. North Riding Selseth Bridge in the Parish of Ranbaldkirke became ruinous by reason of the late great storm. Quarter Sessions (NRQS) ? Jul 1682 Late Brompton Bridge by the late great floods has fallen down. NRQS Speight(1891) Bridge at Brompton-on-Swale was damaged.
