That’s how the light gets in.” Anthem, Leonard Cohen 18 Tree Table Design by Jacob Plejdrup 2011 20 Tree Table Tree Table is a perfectly balanced natural design. On top of the simple steel construction lies solid wooden planks shaped by nature and fashioned by the industry’s most skilled hands. The table combines true craftsmanship and innovative engineering, and the result is visually striking. The table is made of solid planks of smoked oiled oak, light natural oak or American walnut. Each plank has its own form and structure, and the cracks and knots provide a unique table top. All knots are filled in order to preserve a user-friendly surface, and the natural edge is gently hand-sanded. each Tree Table is individually numbered, and a discrete steel plate on the table’s edge testifies to the table´s originality. The Tree Table can be made up to 450 cm in length. on so called ”plank-days” we invite buyers to the factory in Hundtofte on the Isle of Funen in Denmark to select their own planks for their dream table. dk3-founder and Tree Table Designer Jacob Plejdrup is present with advice and guidance. ”Plank-days” are published on dk3. dk, and if the trip to Funen is too long, you can either find pictures of already finished planks on dk3.dk to choose from or we custom make 22 new planks. dk3_3 Table Design by Jacob Plejdrup 2009 24 BlackWhite Table Design by Jacob Plejdrup 2014 26 Less Is More Table Design by Jacob Plejdrup 2012 28 Less Is More Table Design by Jacob Plejdrup 2012 30 “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” Leonardo da Vinci 32 Plank Sofa Design by Hindernes/Berg/Knudsen&Myhr 2013 34 Plank Sofa Having spotted the Plank Sofa at a design show in Bergen/Norway in the fall of 2012, dk3 founder and owner, Jacob Plejdrup, instantly fell in love: “If dk3 is ever to make a sofa, this has got to be it”, he thought. He approached Steinar Hindernes, Anders Berg, Petter Knudsen and Frode Myhr - the Norwegian designers behind the Plank Sofa - and during the course of the dialogue he was delighted to find out that the idea behind the Plank Sofa was based on the world famous floor planks from Danish DINeSeN. “The concept behind the Plank Sofa is a fascination of the solid broad floor planks from DINeSeN, and a wish to develop these enormous dimensions of solid wood into new products. The thick solid wooden base and back represent the main construction and create an impression of lightness and fluidity” - Hindernes/Berg/Knudsen/Myhr The Plank Sofa is available in DINeSeN Douglas Fir, normal European oak and American walnut. The legs are available in wood with or without brass or stainless steel and we offer a wide range of leather and fabrics for the cushions. The Plank Sofa was officially launched in oslo, London and Seoul in the fall of 2013. His famous architect father, Jensen-Klint, was responsible for the construction of this church. The Church Chair is a challenge for any skilled carpenter: There are no right angles on the Church Chair and the chair requires high accuracy in all manufacturing processes. All four pieces on the back of the chair have different angles in order to suit the human spine and the seat is envelope woven paper cordel treated with soap and wax, and thus stain resistant. A design icon from generations ago for generations to come. Kaare Klint stands today as a “father figure” for modern Danish furniture design. In 1924 he became a lecturer at the Academy of Art and started a whole new line of furniture design that was based on his thoughts and ideas. These new thoughts, he passed on to his students, including amongst others, Hans J. Wegner and Børge Mogensen. Kaare Klint was among the first to create a partnership between the Carpentry Guild and furniture designers. This collaboration led to the fact, that the vast majority of Danish furniture classics are made of wood. 50 Pilot and Co-Pilot Chair Design by Asger Soelberg 2010 52 dk3_6 Sideboard Design by Rainer Bachschmid 2009 54 ROYAL SYSTEM® 58 An artist and his masterpiece ROYAL SySTeM® shelving system was designed in 1948 by legendary Danish designer and manufacturer Poul Cadovius. It was one of the world’s first wall-hung furniture systems, and the idea that furniture should not use floor space was innovative. “Most of us live on the bottom of a cube. If we put the walls even with the floor, we get a lot of space to live on” was the mantra of Poul Cadovius. There have been many attempts to copy this famous design, but ROYAL SySTeM® is and remains the original. ROYAL SySTeM® was produced at Poul Cadovius’ factory in Randers (Denmark), where up to 300 people were employed. ROYAL SySTeM® was also produced under license in more than 30 countries and is considered one of Danish furniture history’s greatest successes ever. Poul Cadovius is one of the most colourful and successful personalities in Danish furniture industry’s history. “Architect, designer, self-taught inventor, manufacturer, innovator, the furniture industry’s ‘enfant terrible’ - the titles are many”, as the author Henriette Houth writes in her book ”Kassebogen”. Poul Cadovius was ambitious and constantly seeking. When he wasn’t designing or producing furniture, he was driving racing cars or building luxury yachts at his own Saghitta shipyard in Svendborg. And the stories are many: When a sailboat customer claimed poor sailing-performance on a Saghitta 35 from the yard, Poul Cadovius had the ultimate retort. He borrowed the boat and sailed in a race ”around Zealand” - and won! Poul Cadovius took out over 400 patents - the last as a 90-year-old. Both his life and designs testify to a genuine figure that went his own way - to the delight of us all. In 2010, dk3 re-launched the ROYAL SySTeM® in contemporary materials such as walnut, oak, and high pressure laminate. ROYAL SySTeM® can be ordered individually as a classic bookcase, modern desk or library with different cabinet modules. The timeless spirit of ROYAL SySTeM® is preserved through the well known stringers, hangers, shelves and beautiful cabinets. And all of exquisite quality, created for modern interior design and future needs.
