Sister Joyce Brochet and Yvette Roy, two Daughters of Jesus, were the ones who really encouraged me to become a Sister. I met the Sisters at the Morne Jaune Primary School where they taught religious education. Sr. Joyce Brochet said that she was impressed with me because I was the only teacher who remained with the children during the religious education class. These two sisters really took an interest in me and even invited me to spend weekends with them at the Convent in La Roche. After hearing the call what influenced you to enter the Convent? The journey was not all smooth sailing. The desire to enter was very strong sometimes and on other occasions almost gone. I have always been an outgoing person – loving life (I still am). So time and again, the pleasures of life would deter me. But overall, the desire to be of service to mankind prevailed. I wanted to give my life without counting the cost. To this day, if I were to do it all over again, I would! I have never regretted my choice. I entered the Novitiate in Soufriere in 1990. After two years of training, I made my first profession in 1992, and took my final vows in 1997. I have been a Sister for 22 years. What difficulties did you encounter during your first year in the Convent? I went into the Convent with an open heart and did not experience any difficulties per se. My needs were being met and I figured that’s it. I also found the cont’d on page 05

OUR DIOCESE the two in their personal relationship. (796, 808) Why is the Church called the temple of the Holy Spirit? She is so called because the Holy Spirit resides in the body which is the Church, in her Head and in her members. He also builds up the Church in charity by the Word of God, the sacraments, the virtues, and charisms. (797-798, 809-810) “What the soul is to the human body, the Holy Spirit is to the members of Christ, that is, the body of Christ, which is the Church.” (Saint Augustine) What are charisms? Charisms are special gifts of the Holy Spirit which are bestowed on individuals for the good of others, the needs of the world, and in particular for the building up of the Church. The discernment of charisms is the responsibility of the Magisterium. (799-801) The Church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Why is the Church one? The Church is one because she has as her source and exemplar the unity of the Trinity of Persons in one God. As her Founder and Head, Jesus Christ re-established the unity of all people in one body. As her soul, the Holy Spirit unites all the faithful in communion with Christ. The Church has but one faith, one sacramental life, one apostolic succession, one common hope, and one and the same charity. (813-815, 866) Where does the one Church of Christ subsist? The one Church of Christ, as a society constituted and organized in the world, subsists in the Catholic Church, governed by the Successor of Peter and the bishops in communion with him. Only through this Church can one obtain the fullness of the means of salvation since the Lord has entrusted all the blessings of the New Covenant to the apostolic college alone whose head is Peter. (816, 870) How are non-Catholic Christians to be considered? In the churches and ecclesial communities which are separated from full communion with the Catholic Church, many elements of sanctification and truth can be found. All of these blessings come from Christ and lead to Catholic unity. Members of these churches and communities are incorporated into Christ by Baptism and we so we recognize them as brothers. (817-819, 870) How does one commit oneself to work for the unity of Christians? The desire to restore the unity of all Christians is a gift from Christ and a call of the Spirit. This desire involves the entire Church and it is pursued by conversion of heart, prayer, fraternal knowledge of each other and theological dialogue. Reading Section This is the continuation of a little book called Our Lady of Fatima by Rev. Lawrence G. Lovasik, S.V.D The Lady of the Rosary N the morning of October 13, when the children arrived at the Cova, 70,000 people filled the field Ohoping to see the Lady. But they never did. Rain began to fall heavily. At noon the three children knelt down in the mud to pray the rosary. A sharp flash of lightning stilled the great crowd. A dim cloud rested on the oak tree. The beautiful Lady appeared in radiant brightness. Lucia asked the question: “Who are you and what do you want?” The Lady said: “I am the Lady of the Rosary, and I have come to warn the faithful to amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins. People must not continue to offend the Lord, Who is already so deeply offended. They must say the rosary.” The Virgin Mary then asked that a church be built on the spot and promised the war would end in a year if people would amend their lives. .
