  • Glam Rock by Barney Hoskyns 1
Glam Rock By Barney Hoskyns There's a new sensation A fabulous creation, A danceable solution To teenage revolution Roxy Music, 1973 1: All the Young Dudes: Dawn of the Teenage Rampage Glamour – a word first used in the 18th Century as a Scottish term connoting "magic" or "enchantment" – has always been a part of pop music. With his mascara and gold suits, Elvis Presley was pure glam. So was Little Richard, with his pencil moustache and towering pompadour hairstyle. The Rolling Stones of the mid-to- late Sixties, swathed in scarves and furs, were unquestionably glam; the group even dressed in drag to push their 1966 single "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" But it wasn't until 1971 that "glam" as a term became the buzzword for a new teenage subculture that was reacting to the messianic, we-can-change-the-world rhetoric of late Sixties rock. When T. Rex's Marc Bolan sprinkled glitter under his eyes for a TV taping of the group’s "Hot Love," it signaled a revolt into provocative style, an implicit rejection of the music to which stoned older siblings had swayed during the previous decade. "My brother’s back at home with his Beatles and his Stones," Mott the Hoople's Ian Hunter drawled on the anthemic David Bowie song "All the Young Dudes," "we never got it off on that revolution stuff..." As such, glam was a manifestation of pop's cyclical nature, its hedonism and surface show-business fizz offering a pointed contrast to the sometimes po-faced earnestness of the Woodstock era.

Ian Hunter was the front man for Mott The Hoople from way back in 1969. He also worked with Ralphs until he quit to start Bad Company with Paul Rodgers back in the early 70s. There is no doubt that Hunter still has the ability to energize the crowd and get them singing along--take the rendition of his big hit song courtesy David Bowie, "All The Young Dudes." At times he even sounds Bowie-like when his voice cracks and he sings slightly around the key.

  • On Tour with Eric Clapton Label: Speakers Corner Delaney And
CD & VINYL REVIEW ROUND-UP PT.16 - The Audiophile Man 23.03.21, 1337 DELANEY & BONNIE & FRIENDS Title: On Tour with Eric Clapton Label: Speakers Corner Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett were husband and wife and purveyors of some top quality blues, country and roots-based fare. Their approach to music soared towards the poles. On one side of the coin, the pair had an open and relaxing relationship with their music. If you had the chops, you were welcome to join the gang and enjoy yourself at your pace, without any pressures or hassles. With space to breath and to express yourself in creative terms. This is the main reason why the pair attracted a series of famous friends to join their troup. On the other side of the coin, the Bramletts – or maybe that should be termed Brawling Bramletts – fought like cat and dog with many people in the area being hit by the shrapnel. Despite the arguments, the music they and their friends produced was of high quality. This 1970 outing only lasted forty-two minutes and spanned eight songs but the album is tightly packed with quality. The fact that Clapton felt free of the pressures of fame meant that he could spread his wings and he certainly does that on tracks such as ‘I Don’t Want to Discuss It’ and ‘Coming Home’. One item of note, Clapton enjoyed himself so much that, if you take a look at the rear sleeve and peruse the line up, you’ll notice Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon all listed.

ISSUE #14 This Here... “...sucked all the creative air out of the rooms...” (H Waldrop) into seeing this latest epic asap, especially given the good EGOTORIAL buzz surrounding it. But no, not in this case. I was vaguely reminded of my unwillingness to go see the original Star BB complains that we rarely sit and watch anything on TV Wars, in that case primarily because I was put off by the together (with the possible exceptions of TNA Wrestling, relentless hype. When The Empire Strikes Back came out, I which I’ve managed to get her into, and the local news at saw both in a special double feature at the local flick nearest dinner time). This isn’t really surprising, since when I’m to Tufnell Park, where I was then living, and reflected working (most of the time since September, but sadly not so afterwards that I was glad I hadn’t given in on the first one, much this month), I’m ready for bed around 8 since I get up since although I liked Empire a lot, the first one, eh, not so at 4am or so most days, and in any case whereas her taste much, since it suffers from the same problem as the later runs to whatever is on the Hallmark or Lifetime channels, Lord of the Rings epics, in that the central character, be it mine is an eclectic mix of rasslin’, MSNBC and Family Guy Frodo Baggins or Luke Skywalker, is an insufferable little tit. reruns. Overall I thought Nevertheless, the newest this Valentine’s incarnation of weekend I was Star Trek was persuaded to bloody good! I participate in the especially liked purchase of a the neat, if pay-per-view obvious movie for explanation for Saturday night, the continuity which is how I differences between this and finally got to see Spot the insufferable tit the J.J.

  • Delaney & Bonnie: Rock&Soul&Blues Amb Amics
My Sweet Lord i All Things Must Pass van ser el reflex https://www.naciodigital.cat/bergueda/noticia/5012/delaney-bonnie-rock-soul-blues-amb-amics Pagina 1 de 10 d'aquesta amistat i aquests ensenyaments.
