5 Day Grampians Day 1: Melbourne to Halls Gap Welcome aboard! We set off on a wonderful journey across Eastern Victoria travelling in style and comfort of a luxury touring coach. We depart @ 7.30am from your designated pick up point. Our itinerary caters for plenty of comfort stops along the way and allows us plenty of time to sit back, relax and enjoy this wonderful holiday. Travelling along the Western Hwy we travel to Ballarat where take the opportunity to stop for a comfort stop and a complimentary cup of tea or coffee. After our stop we then travel to Ararat where we visit the historic Ararat Gaol, J Ward is a museum that explains the early history of the goldfield times and later, the incarceration of the criminally insane. To relive its past, take a guided tour conducted by the Friends of J Ward volunteers. These people are passionate about J Ward's heritage. J Ward is not just dry history. It is a story of people who lived, who broke the law, who couldn't help themselves, who feared, who died. We then have some free time in Ararat to purchase lunch at own expense. After lunch we will visit Seppelt Great Western to sample some of their award winning wines. With over a century and a half of winemaking experience, the House of Seppelt is extremely proud of its heritage and tradition. Day 2: Grampians National Park This morning we visit some of the famous land marks around Halls Gap. Our first point of call will be at the Brambuk Aboriginal Culture Centre, where you will find the very best information and interpretation of the Grampians National Park. Famous for its rugged mountains, spectacular waterfalls, wildflowers, and wildlife and Aboriginal rock art sites - this Park is unique among Australia’s national parks. After getting an appreciation of the history of the Grampians we then stop for a complimentary cup of tea / coffee before we begin to explore this fascinating area. A sample of what we will see today are the Silverband falls and a 10 minute walk down to see this unusual disappearing cascade is a must. Back on the main Horsham road, turning left we follow signs to Baroka Lookout where a splendid view of Halls Gap, the Fyans Valley across to Ararat and the Pyrenes is breathtaking. Also a circle tour around the Wonderland Gap. During our time at the National Park we will stop for a picnic lunch at a suitable location. While visiting this area we will also visit Ros McArthur Art Gallery located at Mirranatwa. We travel back to the Motel with time to freshen up for dinner in the Motel’s Restaurant. Day 3: Silo Art Trail Today we travel north to the township and follow the Silo Art Trail. Our first sighting will be in the small township of Rupanyup. Here we see the monochrome mural created by Russian artist Julia Volchova on the huge metal grain storage bins. This work was inspired by the local Panthers Football & Netball Club. We then continue our trail to Sheep Hills. Here we see the huge mural by Adnate, an internationally renowned artist famous for his work with Aboriginal communities across Australia. Completed in December 2016 and spread across six silos, the work consists of four indigenous faces watching over the tiny community. We then travel to Warracknabeal where we pay a visit to the Wheatlands Agricultural Machinery Museum. The museum houses steps back in time with some early farming equipment of the Mallee. After a visit to the museum it is time to enjoy some lunch, so we visit the Creekside Hotel for a two course lunch. Following lunch we continue a short distance north to the township of Brim and view our last Silo Artwork. Here you will view Guido van Helten’s famous “Farmer Quartet” which stretches out over all four silos. This massive mural was painted in 2015 as a tribute to the drought-stricken farming community. Created in van Helten’s famous monochromatic photo-realistic style, the mural instantly became a regional landmark and provide the inspiration for the Silo Art trail project. We then start travelling south where we pay a visit to the Pink Lake, located a short distance west of Horsham. The lake is easily viewed from the rest-stop and you can take a short walk along a path to the edge of the lake. We then travel into Horsham. Here we stop and visit the regional art gallery. This gallery is recognized as one of the most inclusive and progressive galleries in regional Victoria. After visiting the museum we make our way back to Halls Gap where we have time to freshen up before dinner in the motel’s restaurant. Grampians Motel: (03) 5356-4248 Day 4: Stawell After breakfast we travel to Stawell where we visit the Stawell Gift hall of Fame. Here you will find a veritable treasure trove, complete with artefacts, memorabilia, multimedia clips and archive dating back to the conception of the Gift in 1878. We then visit the Pickers Market which accommodates over 30 different site-holders all situated under the one roof, full of antiques and collectables. A museum where everything is for sale! We then have some free time to purchase lunch at own expense. After lunch we will visit the Halls Gap Zoo. The Halls Gap Zoo comprises 120 species of native & exotic mammals, reptiles and birds. Observe the inquisitive meerkats, playful monkey’s, pure bred dingoes, grand barbary sheep and a plethora of wallaby and kangaroo species We then make our way back to the motel with time to freshen up for dinner at the Motel’s Restaurant. Day 5: Hall Gap to Melbourne After breakfast we farewell our hosts and begin our return trip. Today we will travel via Hamilton. Hamilton features attractive tree-lined streets and a commercial centre which is mainly confined to the areas around Thompson Street, Gray Street and Brown Street. Hamilton boasts a couple of impressive churches which can be found at "Church Hill" which is at the western end of Gray Street. We then have some free time to explore the local shops with time to purchase lunch at own expenses. For those with a sweet tooth a visit to the Glenelg Fine Chocolates is worth a visit. Our last stop in Hamilton we will be at Campes Motor Museum. Included in this museum are a large selection of cars, buses and memorabilia including a Stutz 1929, an Ansett Clipper Bus 1955 and a Citroen 1933. After our visit to Hamilton we travel back to your pick up point with a comfort stop along the way.
