Long-held views are metamorphosing in favor of symbiogenetic models 23 based on metabolic interactions between archaea and bacteria. These include the classical Searcy’s and 24 hydrogen hypothesis, and the more recent Reverse Flow and Entangle-Engulf-Enslave (E3) models.
