The narrator, Che, takes us back Ato the events that led to this moment. Earlier A 15-year-old Eva meets and begins an affair with musician Agustín Magaldi. She blackmails him to take her to Buenos Aires, where she leaves him in order to fulfi ll her ambition of becoming an actress, model and radio star. Enduring poverty and humiliation, Eva uses her feminine wiles to climb the social ladder, while at the same time the ambitious Colonel Juan Domingo Perón begins his rise through Argentina’s political ranks. After the city of San Juan suffers a devastating earthquake, Perón organizes a charity concert for the victims. Eva attends and briefl y encounters Magaldi, who shuns her. Perón meets Eva and the two fall in love, sharing a secret rendezvous. Eva hints that she and Perón could have a mutually benefi cial relationship. Perón introduces Eva to Argentina’s social elites, who dismiss her as another one of Perón’s mistresses. Perón is later promoted to General and decides to run for president but is unsure of his chances of winning. Eva reassures him and together they organize successful rallies, while on the sidelines his allies plot to eliminate anyone who stands in his way. Act II 1946 erón is elected president in a sweeping victory, but it is clear that Eva is the focus of the people’s love: they have Pnicknamed her ‘Evita’. Eva addresses her adoring supporters from the balcony of the Presidential Palace, where she reveals she will be putting her own career aside in order to serve the people of her country with charitable work. With the help of her fashion consultants, Eva embarks on a glamorous tour of Europe to promote Perónism. She is adored in Spain and Italy but snubbed in England and fails to impress the French. Our narrator, Che, wonders

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Sunset Boulevard by Christopher Hampton Sunset Boulevard by Christopher Hampton. Sunset Boulevard weaves a magnificent tale of faded glory and unfulfilled ambition. Silent movie star Norma Desmond longs for a return to the big screen, having been discarded by tinsel town with the advent of “talkies.” Her glamour has faded in all but her mind. When she meets struggling Hollywood screenwriter Joe Gillis in dramatic circumstances, their subsequent passionate and volatile relationship leads to an unforeseen and tragic conclusion. Videos. Based on the Billy Wilder film, the musical version of Sunset Boulevard, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Christopher Hampton and Don Black, had its world premiere at London’s Adelphi Theatre on July 12th, 1993. The show received its American premiere in December 1993 at the Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles starring Glenn Close as Norma Desmond. The show opened on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre in November 1994 with the highest advance in Broadway history at the time ($37.5 million in ticket sales). The show has been staged across the world with productions in Canada, the Netherlands, Australia, and tours in the US and UK. Sunset Boulevard returned to Broadway in 2017 at the Palace Theatre with Glenn Close reprising her role as Norma Desmond, following a sold out run in the West End at the London Coliseum. Gallery. I first saw Sunset Boulevard sometime in the early 70s. It inspired a tune. This tune was supposed to be the title song. However, I neither had the rights to the film, nor at that time was likely to be able to obtain them.

The plethora of adaptations over the past centuryii, with varying degrees of similarity to the source text, have taken on a life of their own. Criticism of POTO is still relatively underdeveloped; as Ann C. Hall notes, while the novel has been critiqued through its associations (mainly its links to Gothic fiction and its Freudian and Jungian interpretations), these readings tend to “diminish” author Gaston Leroux’s skill and readers’ enjoyment (Hall 2). This chapter will not focus on Freudian or Jungian readings, but instead I hope to explore an element of the Leroux novel and the adaptations that has been overlooked, and in so doing, give some suggestions as to what qualities have contributed to making this story so enduring.

Image features Audrey Dwyer from a photo by Avital Zemer. 1 A Message from the Artistic and Executive Directors Welcome to Seussical – one of our favourite musicals at YPT. Apart from being great fun and featuring terrific performances, this is a profound story. At its centre is Horton the Elephant’s assertion that "a person’s a person no matter how small". Obviously, these are words to live by. They are also a call to action for young people – to think and care about those who are sometimes forgotten or unseen. We hope Seussical inspires all audience members, young and not so young, to be conscious of the impact of their actions. Think how much better the world would be. To quote another song from the show "Oh the thinks you can think – if you’re willing to try..." Our show runs through the Holidays with public performances every day between December 27th and 31st. Perhaps you know someone for whom Seussical tickets would make a great gift! We wish you the very best for the Holidays and the New Year to come. ALLEN MACINNIS NANCY J.
