MARIENPLATZ, ALTER PETER AND Be sure to visit Marienplatz, the heart of Munich and its historic district! If you are there, climb up the church tower of “Alter Peter” and have a look at Munich from above. Then, walk to the Viktualienmarkt right beside the Alter Peter. It’s a historic market square where you can just stroll around, buy food, spices and have a beer in the beer garden right in its middle. MVV-Station: Marienplatz

GLOCKENBACHVIERTEL AND Currently the most popular part of town is the Glockenbach-quarter. It is full of cafes, galleries, shops and bars. Its very heart is the Gärtnerplatz, a round square where people sit in the grass and chill on warm summer evenings. Right beside the Glockenbach-quarter is the Isar River that runs right through the city in a green belt of lawns and trees. The Isar is quite clean nowadays, so why not take a swim?
