A todos que direta ou indiretamente contribuíram para que eu chegasse até aqui! à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à RESUMO A Tradução de Canção tem sido negligenciada dentro do campo dos Estudos da Traduçãoe a tradução das canções de rock ainda tem sido um campo quase inexplorado. A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo suprir esta lacuna, explorando um corpus bilíngue formado pelas principais sessenta versões que introduziram ess eestilo musical no Brasil nas décadas de 50 e 60 do século passado e suas respectivas canções originais. Inicialmente foi realizado um levantamento do corpus através do site http://www.jovemguarda.com.br. Iniciando com a primeira canção de rock traduzida no Brasil em 28 de novembro de 1955 - “Rock around the clock” - e indo até abril de 1967 com a tradução de “Black is black” o corpus reúne 60 canções no idioma de origem – inglês – esuas respectivas 60 versõesno idioma alvo – português. Em seguida a pesquisa se direciona à classificação dessas canções em tradução, adaptação ou substituição, de acordo com o Princípio do Pentatlo, um sistema de análise de tradução de canção concebido por Peter Low (2005). Foi possível concluir que a maioria dos textos-alvo, 30, foram traduções, com 24 adaptações, e apenas 6 textos usaram a estratégia substituição. Em um terceiro momento, através da ferramenta de análise linguística computacional WordSmith Tools desenvolveu-se uma busca pelo termo de maior relevância frequencial nos textos-fonte. Ao identificar a palavra love como a mais comum, foi também possível constatar que a mesma aparece com maior incidência como uma expressão idiomárica - EI. Em seguida, direciono para uma análise de como estas EIs foram traduzidas. Verificou-se que dentre as 20 ocorrências, 16 utulizaram a tradução por paráfrase, 3 ocorrências se valeramda tradução por correspondente pragmático e já a estratégia de tradução por omissão ocorreu em apenas uma EI. As estratégias tradução literal e tradução por uma EI equivalente, não foram observadas na nossa fonte de dados. Palavras-chave: tradução de canção, rock, Princípio do Pentatlo, expressão idiomática. ABSTRACT Song translation has been neglected within the field of Translation Studies and the translation of Rock songs has still been an almost unexplored field. The present studyaims to help fill this gap by exploring a bilingual corpusformed by the main sixty song versions that introduced this musical style in Brazil in the 50’s and 60’s of the last century and their respective original songs. Initially the corpus data were collected from the website http://www.jovemguarda.com.br. Beginning with the first rock song translated in Brazil on November 28th, 1955 - "Rock around the clock" - and going through April 1967 with the translation of "Black is black", the corpus brings together 60 songs in the original language - English - and their respective 60 versions in the target language - Portuguese. Then, the study moves on to the classification of these songs either astranslation, adaptation or replacement texts, according to the Pentathlon Approach, a system of analysis of translated songs conceived by Peter Low (2005). It was possible to conclude that most of the target texts, 30, were translations, then 24 adaptations, and only 6 replacement texts. In a third moment, through the computational linguistic tool WordSmith Tools, a search for the term with the highest frequency appearing in the source texts was carried out. Afteri dentifying the word love as the most common, it was also possible to verify that it was the most frequent word composing idiomic expressions - IEs. Subsequently, the analysis sought to identifyhow, in terms oftranslation strategies, these IEs were translated. It was verified that of the 20 occurrences, 16 were translations by paraphrase, 3 were translations by pragmatic correspondence, and onlyone of the IEs was translation by omission. Literal translation and translation by an equivalent IE were not observed in thesource data. Keywords: Song translation, Rock, the Pentathlon Approach, idiomatic expression. This was the year when a revolt broke out in Alexandria against the Anglo-French control of Egypt, thus precipitating the 1882 Anglo-Egyptian War.
