Hello Class 2AT and 2KW. We hope this pack continues to find you safe and well. We hope that you have been enjoying learning about the Queen. We will ask you to continue to complete some activities about the Queen this week. Thank you for all your work that you have been sharing with us on Classdojo and for completing the activities on Purple Mash. We have loved seeing your work and being able to comment on it. If you haven’t had a chance to log in yet we would love you to be able to use your logins and show us some of the work that you are doing at home. They are both easy platforms to access and use. We continue to miss seeing you in school but it’s great that we are now able to have some contact with you via Classdojo and Purple Mash. This timetable gives you a rough outline of how a day works at school. You could use this as a guide to when you use our resources to support you at home. Alternatively, if your child needs support with this that is absolutely fine because we would be supporting them in class. Thank you for your continued support with helping your child’s learning at home whilst we are going through this unusual situation. Please stay safe and take care. Mrs Terry and Miss Whitworth Now choose some of these words to put in to silly sentences, for example, ‘The honest ghost used his comb’. Take a photo of your work once it’s completed and share it with us on Classdojo. or type it up in the 2Do activity set on Purple Mash. Homophones are words that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings. We have also set you two activities on Purple Mash for you to practice some of your skills. Phonics skills This phonics activity will help you to practise some of your sounds. You need to insert the correct special friend in to the word in order to spell it correctly. You will find the activity in your 2Dos list. Spelling skills This spelling activity will help you to practise some of the homophones from the above activity. You look at the word first before having a go at spelling the word yourself using the letters provided. You will find the activity in your 2Dos list. Take a photo of your work once it’s completed and share it with us on Classdojo. Your child could read this to themselves or they can have it read to them. They may need a little support with reading the questions as well which is encouraged. Share your answers from the reading with us on Classdojo by taking a photo of your work so we can see how you got on with it. We would now like you to do some more work on the Queen and her family. There is going to be some information about the different places were the Queen lives or spends time because she has more than one residence. Read the information with a family member and talk about the things that you have learnt. You will then find different activities relating to The Queen’s residences throughout the remainder of this pack. Windsor Castle • Windsor Castle is located in the county of Berkshire, England. It is one of the royal residences and it is the largest inhabited castle in the world. • The oldest parts of Windsor Castle were built by the Normans following the victory of William the Conqueror in the Battle of Hasting in 1066. The original castle was made of wood and built in the motte-and-bailey style. The location of the castle meant that it could watch over the River Thames and Windsor Forest (a royal hunting ground). • Henry I was the first monarch to use Windsor Castle as a home and it is during his reign that the wooden keep and walls were replaced with stone. • Windsor Castle is the headquarters of the Order of the Garter (a fellowship of knights founded by Henry III in 1348). • Queen Victoria and Prince Albert made Windsor Castle their main place of residence. Following Albert’s death, Queen Victoria was sometimes referred to as the ‘Widow of Windsor’. • During World War 2, the windows of Windsor Castle were blacked out, many of the most valuable works of art were moved away, and the royal bedrooms were strengthened in case the castle was bombed during The Blitz. The royal family slept in Windsor Castle during WW2, but this was a secret. The public believed that they were spending the nights in Buckingham Palace. • In 1992 a massive fire took place in Windsor Castle. Over 100 rooms were damaged by either fire or the water used to extinguish the fire. The cost of Windsor Castle’s restoration was nearly £40 million. Balmoral Castle Balmoral Castle is a royal residence in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It was purchased by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband, in 1848. Victoria and Albert paid £30,000 for full ownership of the house in 1852. Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone in 1853, signed a parchment recording the date, and placed it in the hole prepared for the stone. Today, Balmoral is owned privately by the royal family, and is one of Queen Elizabeth II's favourite summer retreats. Sandringham House Sandringham is best known as the location of Sandringham House and its estate, a favoured holiday home of Queen Elizabeth II and several of her predecessors. Near to Sandringham house is the Royal Stud, a stud farm that houses many of the royal horses. The village was the birthplace of Diana, Princess of Wales. Writing Activity Now that you have read all the information on some of the different places where The Queen lives or spends time we would like you to use this information to create a poster or information leaflet. You may wish to focus on just one of her residences or you may want to write about all three. We would like you to try and share at least 3 facts with us about the place/places you choose to write about. You can present your information in different ways. • You could write up your information in your exercise book and then share your work with us on Classdojo. • You could create a fact sheet or poster about the residences on a blank piece of paper and then share your work with us on Classdojo. • Or you could create a fact sheet / poster on Purple Mash on the activity that we have set up for you in your 2Dos list. When you are completing this activity remember to write in clear sentences, using correct punctuation. Try to include interesting adjectives and adverbs. Try to use conjunctions to join your ideas together. When you have finished re-read your work to check that it all makes sense. Now that you have matched and ordered the numbers take a photo of your work and share it with us on Classdojo. Below are some questions linked to number and place value. Answer the questions on the sheets and then take a photo of your work and share it with us on Classdojo. As well as the above activities for you to work on there are some maths games and activities set up for you on Purple Mash in your 2Do’s list. You can only use each card once for each of the different totals. Now that you have tried hard to solve this problem share your work with us on Classdojo with a photo. Art/DT Activity We are now going to think back to the different places where The Queen lives and likes to spend time. We would like you to create one of these buildings. You can do this in several ways. • You could draw a picture of one of the buildings.
