Nestled 20 miles north of Knoxville in the foothills of the Cumberland Norris Dam was created to bring economic development to the region Mountains lies Norris Lake. Norris Dam Marina overlooks the dam waters where the Clinch River and Cove Creek meet at day marker 1. Day markers are used on Norris Lake for identifying points and areas of the lake and to help in navigation. They are located 1-5 miles apart on signs called day boards on the shores of Norris Lake with numbers ranging from 1 to 33. They are on most lake maps to help locate different areas, creeks, points and marinas on the lake. They also help you know where you are on the lake. Cove Creek flows from Cove Lake State Park to the dam. Cove Lake drains into Norris Lake at the beginning of Cove Creek. Along Cove Creek there are two marinas, Twin Cove Marina at day marker 4 and Mountain Lake Marina at day marker 3. The Norris Dam State Park and the Cove Creek Wildlife area border Cove Creek where the creek meets the Clinch River at the dam. The Norris Dam State Park also runs along the shores of the Clinch River before you get to Sequoyah Marina, just past where Big Creek joins the Clinch River at day marker 5. Big Creek flows from downtown LaFollette, past the Campbell County Park/Beach by the White Bridge on Demeroy Road to the Clinch River. Indian River Marina, at day marker 8 and Whitman Hollow Marina, close to day marker 7, are both located on Big Creek. Stop by their restaurants for a meal, snack or drink. Farther up the Clinch River is the Anderson County Park located where the Clinch and Powell Rivers merge at day marker 9. This park has a beach swimming area, playground and campground all along the shores. Stardust Marina is just around the corner, up a little from day marker 9 on the Clinch River. Stardust Marina has great burgers if your hungry. The deep clear waters of Norris Lake create a perfect habitat for many species of fish, becoming a favorite destination and tournament venue for anglers across the country as well as moms, grandmas, dads, grandpas and kids of all ages. If you want to catch fish, Norris Lake is where you want to be. License Information A Tennessee fishing license is required if you take fish or attempt to take fish (including crayfish) by any method or if you assist someone else to do so. Non-residents have a choice of annual, 10-day or 3-day fishing license for either all fish or no trout. If you are under 13 you do not need a license. Annual fishing licenses go on sale February 18, the start of prime fishing and are valid until the last day of February the following year. Licenses are available by phone, on the web, by mail or from the county court clerks, some sporting goods stores, hardware stores and marinas. Always be aware and alert when driving a boat. • TWRA (Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency) and the US Coast Guard patrol and enforce boating laws on Norris Lake. Know and obey the laws of the state and the rules of the lake. Practice good seamanship. 2. Keep a sharp lookout. 3. Maintain a safe speed and distance. Whitman Hollow • NEVER allow your boat or PWC to be driven by an inexperienced operator without proper instructions. • Provide everyone with an appropriate size PFD before leaving the dock and have them readily available. • Children 12 and under must wear a Personal Flotation Device while underway. Be sure all PFDs fit properly. • NEVER follow directly behind other boats or PWCs. (Boats do not have brake lights.) • Be aware of other boats and swimmers around you. Swimmers are hard to see so look out for them always. • ALWAYS look in all directions before starting out, turning or changing course. Then look again. • When approaching a boat, the boat on your right has the right away. Tell your passengers not to move around the boat once the boat is moving above idle speed. • Anyone born after 1-1-89 who operates a boat or PWC without an adult aboard that was born on or before 1-1-89 - must have taken and passed a Coast Guard approved boating education course (TWRA or NASBLA - National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) and have their certificate with them. Those less than 12 years old must have a supervisor on board who is at least 18 years old and able to take immediate control of the vessel. The supervisor if born after 1-1-89 also must have a Boating Safety Education Certificate issued by TWRA or NASBLA. Children 12 years old or older operating alone must have a Boating Safety Education Certificate issued by TWRA or NASBLA. • As a boat owner and driver you are responsible by law to make sure your lights on your boat are working properly and on 1/2 hour before sunset and 1/2 hour after sunrise. Even if you don’t expect to be out at night things happen so be prepared. Boating lights are for other boaters to see you. If your boat lights do not work people will not see you. Don’t put you and others in your boat as well as other boaters at risk of harm. • DO NOT drink alcohol and drive a boat at any time. Alcohol is a major contributor to boating accidents and fatalities. If your trip includes any drinking use a designated non-drinking driver. Be Safe! Be Smart! Have Fun! The U. S. Coast Guard asks all boat owners and operators to help reduce fatalities, injuries, property damage and associated healthcare costs related to recreational boating accidents by taking personal responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their passengers. Essential steps include always wearing a life jacket; never boat under the influence; successfully complete a boating safety course; and get a vessel safety check annually from your local U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary or United States Power Squadrons.

Powell River, Cedar Creek & Davis Creek The Powell River is one of the two rivers that makes up Norris Lake. It meets the Clinch River about 10 miles northeast of the dam around Anderson County Park at day marker 9. It extends 56 miles northeastward past day marker 18, eventually flowing under 25E just south of Cumberland Gap. The Powell River offers beautiful scenic views of the Cumberland Mountains to the northwest and the Chuck Swan Wildlife Management Area to the south. Shanghai Resort is located across the lake from day marker 10. Deerfield Resort is the development along the shores of Cedar Creek and Powell River. Deerfield Cove Marina and the Tiki Club are around the next point just before Springs Dock Resort. Flat Hollow Marina Resort is just past day marker 12 and Blue Springs Dock is a little further down the Powell River past day marker 14. Homes Perfect for Weddings, There are two major creeks that feed into the Powell River, Cedar Creek and Reunions and Gatherings Davis Creek. Sugar Hollow Marina is the only dock on Cedar Creek and is close to 4 the popular Cedar Creek Bridge, also known as party cove. Davis Creek enters the Powell River around day marker 12 behind an island where it is easy to miss. Powell Valley Resort is located on Davis Creek at day marker 13 at the influence of Doakes Creek. The Cumberland Mountain view from there is awesome. There are many secluded coves in the Chuck Swan Wildlife Management Area that borders a lot of the Powell River. Take an exciting day hike into the Chuck Swan Wildlife Management Area and find the lookout tower or Panther Cave. 46 47 Clinch River East Area Clinch River from Loyston Point to Rt 25E, Mill Creek, Lost Creek, Poor Land Creek and Big Sycamore Creek The Clinch River East Area consists of the Clinch River starting just past Loyston Point at day marker 19 where the lake opens up to the widest part. On the big open lake up Mill Creek, you will find the Waterside Marina to the southwest around day marker 20. Big Ridge State Park is almost completely surrounded by Norris Lake between day markers 21 and 22 with many secluded coves. Hickory Star Marina sits on the southern shore up the Clinch River across from day marker 24, just past the big open lake by a lot of islands. Lakeview Marina and Beach Island Marina are a few miles further around day marker 27 by the new 33 bridge. Make sure you stop by Bubba Brew’s Sports Pub and Grill inside the Beach Island Marina. They have both indoor and outdoor bars, over 25 flat Screen TVs and live music along with great food for all. Past the 33 bridge is Cedar Grove Marina by day marker 28. Straight Creek Dock is just around the corner before you get to the Lone Mountain Shores development. The Norris Landing Marina is at day marker 30 and Lone Mountain Boat Dock is just a little further, back by Big Sycamore Creek. Norris Lake continues to wind back and forth up the Clinch River for over 15 more undisturbed miles until it flows under 25E, where it becomes too shallow to navigate. Norris Lake has become a favorite haven among wakeboarders, kneeboarders, wakesurfers, waterskiers and jet skiers. Thanks to an abundance of coves and corners to break the wind, the lake provides miles of smooth water with some of the best ski water anywhere, referred to as “glass”. If you want to fly on the water, now there is also Flyboarding available a few different places. It’s easier than you think. If you or your kids like to be pulled behind a boat on a tube, or other inflatables, you can always find an open part of the lake to have fun. Most of the marinas rent ski boats, pontoon boats, personal water crafts, skis, wakeboards, SUPs and towable tubes for that great day on the lake.
