South East Queensland Cycle Network Program 2010-11 Capital Grants Projects 2 CITY COUNCIL Bicentennial Bikeway Hale Street Missing Link East – Diversion Works

BICENTENNIAL BIKEWAY HALE STREET MISSING LINK EAST– DIVERSION WORKS

Project Description The Bicentennial Bikeway is located along the between Toowong and the Brisbane Central Business District. This bikeway is one of the most highly utilised pedestrian and cyclist (both recreational and commuter) routes in south east Queensland. Due to sustained growth in usage since its construction in 1988, the Bicentennial Bikeway is now operating at full capacity. The proposed diversion works project is critical to the completion of the Bicentennial Bikeway which is being progressively widened from Toowong to the CBD. This upgrade aims to meet the future demand for both pedestrians and cyclists and provides improved access to the Go Between Bridge Bikeway. The diversion works will see improvement to the city cycle network through pathway upgrades and widening, improved lighting and on-road cycling facilities. To enable the Bicentennial Bikeway section east of the Go Between Bridge to be upgraded, a diversion path is required on the southern side of the Brisbane River. The proposed diversion works project, provides an alternative travel route to the CBD during the construction of the main bikeway providing access from the Bicentennial Bikeway to GOMA and Southbank and from West End to the CBD. The path allows cyclists to avoid the use of Coronation Drive which is a six lane arterial road. The total project cost for the diversion works (Kurilpa Park to South Bank) is $1.45 million. This project also includes the Go Between Bridge to pathways, a pathway realignment and upgrades underneath the Victoria Bridge and intersection upgrades to Grey Street. The diversion works for Hale Street East includes a 250m long 4.0m wide concrete bike path and 2.0m wide concrete pedestrian path on the south side of the Brisbane River, between the Go Between Bridge and Kurilpa Bridge. This project is part of the cycle network identified in the South East Queensland Principal Cycle Network Plan. Trip Attractors • Major CBD Transport Nodes • Brisbane CBD • GOMA • Southbank • West End Funding The project estimate is $1,595,000. Brisbane City Council has committed $797,500 to this project and is requesting: • $797,500 as a 2010-11 Capital Grant from the Cycle Network Program. Project Description The Bicentennial Bikeway is located along the Brisbane River between Toowong and the Brisbane Central Business District. This bikeway is one of the most highly utilised pedestrian and cyclist (both recreational and commuter) routes in south east Queensland. Due to sustained growth in usage since its construction in 1988, the Bicentennial Bikeway is now operating at full capacity. It is for user safety and capacity reasons that the Bicentennial Bikeway needs to be widened and upgraded from a shared pathway to a separated pathway. South East Queensland Cycle Network Program 2010-11 Capital Grants Projects 4 BRISBANE CITY COUNCIL Gateway North Bikeway – Schulz Canal Crossing

GATEWAY NORTH BIKEWAY – SCHULZ CANAL CROSSING

Project Description The Gateway North Bikeway will provide a major cycle link between Redcliffe and the Northern Brisbane suburbs. The Schulz Canal Crossing project is a key component of this bikeway, linking the Kedron Brook Bikeway to the Brisbane Airport Corporation cycle network and the Gateway Bikeway network connecting to Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge. Project works include the construction of a 1140 metre long, 3 metre wide off-road shared path from Kedron Brook Bikeway at Nudgee Road south to the Brisbane Airport Corporation boundary. Also included in the project is a 140 metre long bridge structure over Schulz Canal adjacent to Nudgee Road. The Brisbane Airport Corporation proposes to construct the link from its boundary to the Airport Commercial Centre via the Circuit Road Bikeway. There is Airport Link construction work that might affect the crossing over Nudgee Road. If this occurs, Brisbane City Council will provide an interim at-grade crossing of Nudgee Road under the elevated train line. This project is part of the cycle network identified in the South East Queensland Principal Cycle Network Plan. Trip Attractors • Brisbane Airport Commercial Centre • Schulz Canal Bikeway • Nundah Industrial Centre • Hendra Industrial Centre • Toombul Cycle Criterion Track • Albert Bishop Park • Toombul Shopping Complex • DFO Shopping Complex Funding The project estimate is $7,000,000 (Excl.
