September 1980- Assistant Engineer September, 1985 Water & Sewerage Department, Nairobi City Commission ¨ Seconded to Howard Humphreys - Consulting Engineers- Third Nairobi Water Supply Project on Site Investigation Contract for Thika 6 Dam - 65m high, volume 2.34 Million cubic metres, impounding a reservoir of 70 million cubic metres and 5km rock tunnel of Raw Water Aqueduct. ¨ Resident Engineer - East Dagoretti Water Distribution Works Construction of Primary Water distribution network comprising of 28km of 150mm - 300mm diameter pipes. Project Cost KShs. 32 Million. ¨ Engineer-in Charge of Supply Contracts (Materials) KShs. 9 Million (US$ 50,000). ¨ Engineer's Representative on Water Reticulation Schemes - Buru Buru Phase V - 800 Middle Class Housing Units and remedial work on Doonholm - 300 Middle Class Housing Units. ¨ Project Engineer - Reporting, detailed design and preparation of Contract Documents for East Dagoretti Water Improvement Scheme to serve ultimately 250,000 people. ¨ Assigned to work in Water Operation and Maintenance Section (O & M) carried out Operational Study of Water Supply Problems - Leaks, New Installations, Repairs and Maintenance of Water Works, encountered in delivery of 37mgd Treated Water to Nairobi City Consumers. 3 VII. ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES November, 2009 Appointed to Chair CAE Industrial Training and Linkages -To Date Committee The committee is formulating strategies for: § Closer collaboration of College with Industry; § Establishment of linkages with industry for technical development particularly in the area of product innovation, design and construction; § Promotion of professionalism by mounting Continuing Professional Development programs for professional bodies; § Mentorship and development of Young Professionals within the College. 2001-2003 Senate Representative for Faculty of Engineering 2000-2002 Member, Postgraduate Studies Committee, (then) Faculty of Engineering. 1992-1995 Senior Warden – with special responsibilities of water supply management in the University. VIII. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Council Member, Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK): 1994 to date. The Institution is the learned society of the engineering profession and co- operates with national and other international institutions in developing and applying engineering to the benefit of humanity. • Elected to serve as the Hon. Secretary from 1998 to 2005; 2nd Vice Chairman from 2006 to 2008 and 1st Vice Chairman in 2008. • Chairman, Membership Committee, (IEK): 2005: to date IX. STATE APPOINTMENTS 4 April 2003- Board Member, Engineers Registration Board of Kenya To date The Engineers Registration Board was established by an Act of Parliament in 1969 (Chapter 530 of the Laws of Kenya) to regulate the activities and conduct of Practicing Engineers in the country. § Appointed Chairman, Civil Engineering Panel Responsibilities The Panel receives and examines documents, to determine whether the applicant/engineer has experience, maturity of judgment and professional competence as an engineer. The Panel also interviews the applicants/engineers. § Appointed Chairman, Academic Qualification Committee (AQC) Responsibilities The AQC is charged with the responsibility of examining the Qualifications of any applicant for registration to ensure that they meet the acceptable standards recognized by the Board. This applies only to applicants who obtained their engineering training from educational institutions not already recognized by the Board for the specific discipline. The AQC also examines and recommends to the Board engineering syllabuses from all institutions in Kenya offering engineering courses for their graduates to be accepted to practice as engineers. 2001- Council Member, National Environment Council 2004 National Environment Council (NEC) was established by an Act of Parliament in 1999 (Environmental Management and Co - ordination Act, No. 8 of 1999 of the Laws of Kenya) to set national goals and objectives and determine policies and priorities for the protection of the environment and promote co-operation among public departments, local authorities, private sector, Non- Governmental Organisations and such other organisations engaged in environmental protection programmes; was appointed to serve in the first inaugural NEC. § Member, Ad-hoc committee on formulation of Environmental 5 Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Audit (EA) Regulations and Institutional setting-up of National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA).
