YOUTH MOVEMENT With teenage rookies Zemgus Girgensons, Mikhail Grigorenko, Rasmus Ristolainen and Nikita Zadorov on the roster, the Sabres have become the first NHL team since 1995-96 to dress four teenagers during the course of a season. That year, the Sabres (Jay McKee, Martin Biron, Wayne Primeau, Vaclav Varada, Curtis Brown) joined Florida (4) and Winnipeg (6) as the last teams to dress at least four teenagers in a season.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, the Sabres have become the first team to dress four teenagers in a single game since March 30, 1996, when Winnipeg dressed four 19-year-olds (Shane Doan, Chad Kilger, Deron Quint and Oleg Tverdovsky) in a 5-2 loss to Detroit. He currently sits 39th among all-time franchise scoring leaders, just 13 points behind Harry Watson (285 points in 500 games) for 38th.

LEAFS END 13-GAME STREAK OF BEING OUTSHOT The Maple Leafs ended their 13-game span (Oct. 8-Nov. 8) of being outshot on Oct. 9 when they matched the Bruins with 34 shots in a 3-1 loss. In that 13-game stretch, the Leafs were outshot by a total of 167 shots on goal (482-315), yet went three games over .500 (8- 5-0). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this was the Leafs' longest streak of consecutive games with a shot disadvantage since the 2002-03 season when they were also outshot in 13 straight games (Dec. 27-Jan. 21).

FOUR SHORTIES FOR LEAFS IN OCTOBER From Elias: James van Riemsdyk and Paul Ranger each scored shorthanded goals for the Maple Leafs in their 4-2 win over the Flames on Oct. 30. They were the third and fourth shorthanded tallies in the first month of the season for the Leafs, who recorded only one SHG in 48 games during the entire lockout-shortended 2012-13 campaign. The Maple Leafs' four shorthanded goals in October are the most the team has scored in one calendar month since December 2005, when they had five (Mats Sundin 2, Alexei Ponikarovsky 2, Matt Stajan 1).

KESSEL NAMED NHL'S 2nd STAR OF THE WEEK Phil Kessel was named the NHL's Second Star for the week ending Oct. 27 after leading the NHL in goals (5) while scoring on half of his 10 shots in three games. The Leafs had three 'Star of the Week' selections in 2012-13: Kessel (2nd Star - Apr. 13), Joffrey Lupul (1st Star - Mar. 31) and Nazem Kadri (3rd Star - Mar. 24).

REIMER BLANKS OILERS James Reimer made 43 saves in Toronto's 4-0 win over the Oilers on Oct. 29. It was the Leafs second shutout of the season. Jonathan Bernier posted his first Maple Leafs shutout and Toronto's first of the season by stopping all 36 shots he faced in a 4-0 win at Nashville on Oct. 10. The Leafs registered six shutouts last season and in every one of them their goaltender faced more than 30 shots on goal: four by James Reimer and two by .

REIMER GETS UP FOR THE PENS From Elias: James Reimer made 37 saves as he led the Maple Leafs to a 4-1 win over the Penguins on Oct. 26. With the win, Reimer is now 4-0-2 with a 2.26 goals-against average in six career games versus Pittsburgh. His .833 points percentage against the Penguins is the highest among active who've faced Pittsburgh at least a half-dozen times. Brian Elliott ranks second with a 4-1-1 record and .750 points percentage.

KESSEL POSTS 4th CAREER HAT TRICK Phil Kessel notched his fourth career NHL hat trick and second as a Maple Leaf in Toronto's 4-2 win over Anaheim on Oct. 22. It was only the second hat trick by a Leafs player in a home game over the last five seasons. The other one was also by Kessel in a 6-5 victory against the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 8, 2011.

LEAFS MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR SHOTS James Reimer made 36 saves to lead the Maple Leafs to a 4-1 win over the Wild on Oct. 15 in a game in which Toronto recorded only 14 shots on goal. According to Elias, it was the third time in the Leafs' last 24 regular-season games that they had no more than 14 shots on goal, yet all three games have resulted in regulation wins for Toronto. The other games were last season: a 3-2 win over Boston on March 23 and a 2-0 victory against New Jersey on April 15, with Reimer in goal and making more than 30 saves in each of those games.

TREVOR SMITH BECOMES 900th PLAYER IN FRANCHISE HISTORY Trevor Smith made his Maple Leafs debut on Oct. 8 vs. Colorado and became the 900th player to play at least one game in Toronto franchise history. To date, 904 players (815 skaters, 89 goaltenders) have played at least one game for the Maple Leafs-St. Pats- Arenas. These totals include four players that only appeared in the : Eddie Gerard (1922), Gary Collins (1959), Aut Erickson (1967) and Milan Marcetta (1967).

Carlyle became the 16th individual to have both played for the Maple Leafs and then taken on the reins as the team’s coach. The Sudbury, Ontario native played 94 games for the Blue and White from 1976 to 1978, registering two goals and 16 assists.
