What Is Scientific Knowledge?
i WHAT IS SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE? What Is Scientific Knowledge? is a much- needed collection of introductory- level chapters on the epistemology of science. Renowned historians, philosophers, science educators, and cognitive scientists have authored 19 original contributions specifically for this volume. The chapters, accessible for students in both philosophy and the sciences, serve as helpful introductions to the primary debates surrounding scientific knowledge. First- year undergraduates can readily understand the variety of discussions in the volume, and yet advanced students and scholars will encounter chapters rich enough to engage their many interests. It explores love from a diverse range of standpoints: social- psychological, evolutionary, neuropsychological, clinical, cultural, and even political. It considers questions such as: How do men and women diff er in their love? What makes us sus- ceptible to jealousy and envy in relationships? How does love diff er across cultures? As the psychological basis of love is examined, this volume showcases what attracts people to one another, why love has developed the way it has over time and what evolutionary purpose it serves. Robert J. Sternberg is Professor of Human Development at Cornell University, and is the author or editor of numerous books on love. He has also won the Grawemeyer Award in Psychology and the Cattell and James Awards of the Association for Psychological Science. Karin Sternberg is a research associate and teaches in the Department of Human Development at Cornell University. She is the author of Love 101 and co- author of Th e Nature of Hate. -
