Here at least, the magazine is once again available in print with much care being taken to ensure our distribution volunteers are kept safe. Please keep your distance. Those few days of heat and humidity we experienced during August was, for me, reminiscent of living in Durban (South Africa). Situated in a semi-tropical coastal area we dreaded the summers; never did I think the UK could be as bad, with local temperatures over 30deg. and +100% humidity. Our homes are geared more for the cold than this intense heat. Around 15,400 people are diagnosed with melanoma in the UK each year. The incidence of malignant melanoma in Britain has risen faster than any other common cancer. Over the last decade, the number of people diagnosed with melanoma in the UK has increased by almost half! Take care in the sun….! There will be no collection taken during the service but a plate will be available for donations at the exit door. There will be no refreshments following the service and you will be asked to leave quickly and quietly with no stopping for ‘chat’. 5 HAVE YOU HEARD? DID YOU KNOW? A World in Tears (The following article includes extracts by Dr David Jeremiah and Billy Graham, both highly acclaimed preachers) Many tears have been shed during these past few months as a result of the Coronavirus and its reign of death, finan- cial ruin, and social anxiety. Who can count the tears shed and the pain felt? The media is focused on the way the virus has affected China, Europe and the Americas, but the most widespread tragedy may be in developing nations where tens of mil- lions of people face a looming catastrophe. Tears often become paths to Christ. They can pave a way for spiritual healing. The God who invented tears is moved by them. The Lord said, “I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you” (2 Kings 20:5). Psalm 30:5 says “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning”. Someone called tears ‘liquid prayers’ and that’s often true. Global Media Outreach documented last spring, as the pandemic was growing, that there was a 170% increase in clicks on their search engine about finding hope. Hope is a golden cord connecting us to heaven. This cord helps us when we are plagued with trials. If there ever was a time when the world needed hope, grace, unity, and salvation, it is now. 6 Ordinary people and world leaders struggle with insurmountable problems – and they always will. Some ask “why should ‘good’ people suffer?” Unfortunately Human beings are so interwoven that it is impossible to separate us whilst we are ‘in this world’. Come the next world, when Jesus reigns, it will be different. But in the midst of this world’s persistent darkness, never lose sight of Jesus. He alone is the hope for the world – and He is our hope as well. If you are someone who feels there is no hope for the future think on the following: Jesus said “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” . Asking is the first step. It is the beginning. This can start with prayer and daily prayer. “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” We begin to work on consistency. We start focusing on Him, but we haven’t fully worked on becoming involved just yet. For many believers this makes sense. A lot of us have started our relationship with Christ and God through prayer only. Many of us in Dunkeswell are available to share our experiences with those who wish to know more. Carol Fouracre 7 Letter from the Rector: We are now into our sixth month restricted by Covid19 and are all only too aware of the affect that it has had upon us, our families and communities.

Connecting Devon and Somerset DC14-075 February 25, 2014 For immediate release CONNECTING DEVON AND SOMERSET ANNOUNCES SUPERFAST BROADBAND FOR 25 COMMUNITIES Following last month’s announcement on exchange areas, CDS confirms the communities to benefit from high-speed fibre broadband Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) today confirmed the next 25 communities to benefit from the £94 million programme to bring superfast broadband to rural areas. Last month, the programme announced that it would make high-speed fibre broadband available to 70,000 homes and businesses by the end of July and revealed the names of the latest exchange areas to be included in the CDS roll-out plans. Now it has been able to go one step further and pinpoint the actual communities within those exchange areas, which will benefit. In Devon, they include Ashford, Landkey, Heanton Punchardon, Braunton, Morthoe, Swimbridge, Burlescombe, Feniton, Ottery St Mary, Dunkeswell, Membury, Honiton, Newton Abbot, Ashburton, Ilsington, Kingskerswell, Bovey Tracey and Belstone. In Somerset, the programme will roll-out to Horton, Barrington, Ilminster, Broadway, Dowlish Wake , Kingstone, and Wellington*. Today’s announcement comes as a result of the detailed survey work that is critical in determining how the roll-out plan takes shape through the life of the programme. The new locations follow 19 exchange areas** where the partnership has already made fibre available and a further seven areas*** which are due to ‘go live’ by the end of March – see Notes to EDitors For Further Details oF these locations. The programme has updated the interactive map on the CDS website, www.connectingdevonandsomerset.co.uk, to reflect this latest announcement.
