However, the lack of knowledge about Romanian art and Romanian artists in general (including those working with photography), both outside the artistic community as well as internationally, cannot go unnoticed. There are many reasons for this situation, some of which will be discussed in the following pages. One is the absence of publications describing what goes on in this field in a coherent and systematic way (i.e. providing analysis of the different trends, themes and paths adopted by Romanian artists, and placing them in an international context). The aim of this book is to chart the developments in Romanian photographic art since the fall of communism. It serves as an overview of Romanian photography in this context, and will not cover the entirety of the movement. In the future we hope to see new publications emerge that will enlarge on some of the aspects merely touched upon here, as well as introduce new “actors” to the “stage”. Besides their artistic value, a further criterion used in selecting the artists presented in the following pages was their involvement in projects organised or exhibited by Galeria Nou`. Since its founding in 2001, the gallery has strived in its curatorial programmes to achieve a balance between established and emerging artists, showcasing solo as well as group exhibitions, both of Romanian and international origin. Indeed, Galeria Nou` has succeeded in being perceived as both a mainstream and alternative exhibition space. Finally, alongside some already familiar names, we wanted to present a new generation of Romanian theorists capable of placing Romanian artistic production in the fields of photography and new media in a wider historical and cultural context. In doing so, they manage to overcome the geographical and political barriers that characterised much of recent history. 6 DESPRE ACEAST~ CARTE În contextul artistic românesc fotografia a avut evolu]ia cea mai spectaculoas` din ultimele dou` decenii, iar câ]iva arti[ti români ce lucreaz` par]ial sau exclusiv cu acest mediu au dobândit notorietate interna]ional`. Totu[i nu putem s` nu observ`m c` arta [i arti[tii români în general [i cei din domeniul fotografiei (care ne intereseaz` în cazul de fa]`) sunt destul de pu]in cunoscu]i, atât în România, în afara comunit`]ii artistice cât [i pe plan interna]ional. Cauzele sunt multiple [i ele sunt discutate par]ial în paginile urm`toare. Printre ele se numar` [i inexisten]a unor publica]ii care s` articuleze într-un mod coerent [i sistematic ceea ce se întâmpl` în acest domeniu (analizarea diverselor programe, teme [i direc]ii pe care le abordeaz` arti[tii români, situarea lor într-un context interna]ional mai larg, etc.) Scopul acestei c`r]i este de a face o sec]iune prin ce s-a întâmplat în fotografia româneasc` de art` în perioada post-comunist`. Nu avem îns` preten]ia c` în aceast` lucrare este cuprins` întreaga mi[care fotografic` româneasc`. Sper`m c` în viitor s` apar` [i alte c`r]i care s` detalieze unele lucruri care aici poate sunt doar enun]ate [i s` aduc` “actori” noi în “scen`”. Dincolo de valoare, unul dintre criteriile selec]iei arti[tilor prezenta]i în paginile urm`toare a fost [i acela c` cei mai mul]i dintre ei au f`cut parte din diverse proiecte organizate sau prezentate la Galeria Nou`. De la \nfiin]area sa în 2001, aceasta a încercat prin programul s`u s` fac` un balans între arti[tii cunoscu]i sau la început de drum, s` prezinte expozi]ii personale [i de grup, române[ti [i interna]ionale, reu[ind s` fie perceput` în acela[i timp ca un spa]iu expozi]ional atât mainstream cât [i alternativ.

Grundlage für die Anzeige ist das Gesetz über die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (DNBG) vom 22. Juni 2006 (BGBl. I, S. 1338). Monografien und Periodika (Zeitschriften, zeitschriftenartige Reihen und Loseblattausgaben) werden in ihren unterschiedlichen Erscheinungsformen (z.B. Papierausgabe, Mikroform, Diaserie, AV-Medium, elektronische Offline-Publikationen, Arbeitstransparentsammlung oder Tonträger) angezeigt. Alle verzeichneten Titel enthalten einen Link zur Anzeige im Portalkatalog der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek und alle vorhandenen URLs z.B. von Inhaltsverzeichnissen sind als Link hinterlegt. Die Titelanzeigen der Musiktonträger in Reihe T sind, wie sche Katalogisierung von Ausgaben musikalischer Wer- auf der Sachgruppenübersicht angegeben, entsprechend ke (RAK-Musik)“ unter Einbeziehung der „International der Dewey-Dezimalklassifikation (DDC) gegliedert, wo- Standard Bibliographic Description for Printed Music – bei tiefere Ebenen mit bis zu sechs Stellen berücksichtigt ISBD (PM)“ zugrunde.

Tarkastelen videossa musiikkivideon kuvan, äänen ja tekstin yhdessä muodostamia sukupuolen representaatioita. Tutkimukseni selvittää, millä tavalla 1990- luvun lopulla Yhdysvalloista alkunsa saaneen postfeministisen aatesuuntauksen keskeinen käsite "voimaantuminen" (engl. empowerment) toteutuu musiikkivideossa. Viitekehyksenä analyysilleni toimii metallimusiikin kulttuuri sellaisena, kuin viimeaikaiset metallitutkijat ovat sen määritelleet.
