The pseudonym Imagene Peise is a John Lennon-esque spelling of "Imagine Peace," ala Lennon’s wonsaponatime, and likewise the album title sounds-out "At last, it's Christmas." The alias credits are similarly punning: Imagene Peise - Piano Ominog Bangh - Laughing/Crying Glider Synthesizer Shineyu Bhupal - Drones, Sitar, and Baritone Tambura ARTIST & INFO Band Members: Wayne Coyne, Michael Ivins, Steven Drozd, Derek Brown The Flaming Lips are an American rock band formed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1983. Instrumentally, their sound contains lush, multi-layered, psychedelic rock arrangements, but lyrically their compositions show elements of space rock, including unusual song and album titles—such as "What Is the Light? (An Untested Hypothesis Suggesting That the Chemical [In Our Brains] by Which We Are Able to Experience the Sensation of Being in Love Is the Same Chemical That Caused the "Big Bang" That Was the Birth of the Accelerating Universe)". They are also acclaimed for their elaborate live shows, which feature costumes, balloons, puppets, video projections, complex stage light configurations, giant hands, large amounts of confetti, and frontman Wayne Coyne's signature man-sized plastic bubble, in which he traverses the audience. In 2002, Q magazine named The Flaming Lips one of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die." Records (WBR) has signed a global recording contract with legendary rap group Wu-Tang Clan, including RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and Cappadonna. As a group, Wu-Tang has sold over 6.5 million records in the US, while they’ve sold nearly 40 million records worldwide, including individual members' album sales as well as group sales collectively. The group’s first release on the label will be the highly-anticipated 20th anniversary album, A Better Tomorrow, which will be available December 2nd. This will be the 1st release from the legendary group in 7 years. ARTIST & INFO Hometown: Staten Island, NY Band Members: RZA, GZA, Rawkeon, Method Mad, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Masta Killa, U-God, Capadonna, Ol’ Dirty Bastard (RIP). Emerging in 1993, the Staten Island, NY-based Wu-Tang Clan proved to be the most revolutionary rap group of the mid-’90s. Turning the standard concept of a hip-hop crew inside out, the Wu-Tang Clan were assembled as a loose congregation of nine MCs. Instead of releasing one album after another, the idea was to establish the Wu-Tang as a force with their debut album and then spin off into as many side projects as possible. In the process, the members all became individual stars. ARTIST & INFO Hometown: Dawson, GA One of the most influential soul singers of the 1960s, Otis Redding exemplified to many listeners the power of Southern "deep soul" -- hoarse, gritty vocals, brassy arrangements, and an emotional way with both party tunes and aching ballads. At the time of his tragic death at the age of 26, Redding was on the verge of breaking through to a wide pop audience (which he would indeed do with his posthumous number one single "[Sittin' On] The Dock of the Bay"). He was also tremendously respected by many white groups, particularlythe Rolling Stones, who coveredRedding's "Pain in My Heart."(Excerpted from Allmusic.com) MARKETING POINTS © 2014 Warner Elektra Atlantic Corporation | Terms of Use | Privacy Policy LATE ADDITIONS AUDIO & VIDEO RECAP STREET ORDERS ARTIST TITLE LBL CNF UPCSEL # SRP DATE DUE Young, Neil Storytone REP CD 093624931706 546421 $18.98 11/04/14 10/8/14 Young, Neil Storytone (Deluxe)(2CD) REP CD 093624932406 546105 $20.98 11/04/14 10/8/14 Songbird: Rare Tracks & Forgotten Gems Harris, Emmylou RRW CD 081227956233 546436 $39.98 11/17/14 10/21/14 (4CD) In This Moment Black Widow ATL CD 075678671333 545974 $13.99 11/17/14 10/21/14 Peter, Paul And Mary Discovered: Live In Concert RHI CD 081227956349 546160 $18.98 11/17/14 10/21/14 Special AKA, The In The Studio (180 Gram Vinyl) PRH A 825646297047 297047 $22.98 11/17/14 10/21/14 Alpha Mike Foxtrot: Rare Tracks 1994- Wilco NON CD 075597954395 543675 $39.98 11/17/14 10/21/14 2014 (4CD) Alpha Mike Foxtrot: Rare Tracks 1994- Wilco NON A 075597954401 543674 $89.98 11/17/14 10/21/14 2014 (4LP w/Digital Download) What's Your 20? 459 BRIEF STUDIES and REPORTS The Perry George Lowery / Scott Joplin Connection: New Information on an Important African American Cornetist Richard I. Schwartz The author of this article has previously discussed the life and career of Perry George Lowery (1869-1942) in the Historic Brass Society .f ournal (vol. 12 [2002] : 61-88). The present article is designed to provide supplementary information about his circus career and his surprising professional association with Scott Joplin (1868-1919). It has become apparent to this author that a relationship of strong mutual respect and friendship developed between Perry George Lowery and Scott Joplin during the early twentieth century. P.G. Lowery was renowned for his abilities not only as a cornetist, but also as a conductor ofmany brass bands, consisting of the best African American band musicians in the entertainment world.' Scott Joplin's achievements are many and have been researched extensively by several authors.' One of the few articles in The Indianapolis Freeman3 documenting a friendship between Lowery and Joplin states that "P.G. Lowery, assistant manager of Swain's Nashville Students was the special guest of Scott Joplin, the ragtime king and author of the following hits: `Maple Leaf Rag,' 'Easy Winner,' Peacherine Rag,' 'Sun-flower Slowdrag,' and 'A Blizzard'." Much has been written about all of these compositions with the exception of the last one: no piece entitled A Blizzard has survived and according to Edward A. Berlin4 this reference is the only known mention of it. Lowery extolled the praises of Joplin's works in The Indianapolis Freeman (16 November 1901, p.

  • The Effects of Digital Music Distribution" (2012)
Southern Illinois University Carbondale OpenSIUC Research Papers Graduate School Spring 4-5-2012 The ffecE ts of Digital Music Distribution Rama A. Dechsakda [email protected] Follow this and additional works at: http://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/gs_rp The er search paper was a study of how digital music distribution has affected the music industry by researching different views and aspects. I believe this topic was vital to research because it give us insight on were the music industry is headed in the future. Two main research questions proposed were; “How is digital music distribution affecting the music industry?” and “In what way does the piracy industry affect the digital music industry?” The methodology used for this research was performing case studies, researching prospective and retrospective data, and analyzing sales figures and graphs. Case studies were performed on one independent artist and two major artists whom changed the digital music industry in different ways. Another pair of case studies were performed on an independent label and a major label on how changes of the digital music industry effected their business model and how piracy effected those new business models as well. I analyzed sales figures and graphs of digital music sales and physical sales to show the differences in the formats. I researched prospective data on how consumers adjusted to the digital music advancements and how piracy industry has affected them. Last I concluded all the data found during this research to show that digital music distribution is growing and could possibly be the dominant format for obtaining music, and the battle with piracy will be an ongoing process that will be hard to end anytime soon.

August 2012 Newsletter ------------------------------------ Yesterday & Today Records P.O.Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Phone: (02) 95311710 Email:[email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------ Postage Australia post is essentially the world’s most expensive service. We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th.
