When gender is relevant the terms sire and dam are used. The acrnomyn ‘AWBCR’signifies the Australian Working Border Collier Registry. Summary of the process for the Registration of Working Border Collies to the AWBCR a. The owner(s) of the dog must be, or make application to register as a member(s) of the AWBCR. b. The submitted pedigree must have four generations of known working Border Collie Bloodlines, these are researched extensively and any persons making application to register a dog that does not withstand scrutiny will have their application rejected. Show Dogs are not permitted. c. The dog does not have to be registered in an approved register, but the provenance of the pedigree must withstand the scrutiny of investigation. All submitted pedigrees are researched throughout the current State Records and within the existing AWBCR. Other approved registers that currently are accepted are ISDS1 and ABCA2.’ d. The registry does not have an appendix register nor does it have a Register of Merit. This is to encourage all members to extensively check pedigree’s before they purchase a dog or puppy to avoid disappointment. e. No dogs of unknown origin are accepted and No dogs from other working breeds or their crosses are accepted. -

BRIAN DM 48 Celebrating the inspirational acts of animal bravery and devotion to duty that lie behind every PDSA Dickin Medal. © The People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals 10/18 Registered charity nos. 208217 & SC037585 PDSA DICKIN MEDAL BRIAN DM 48 “This patrol dog was attached to a Parachute Battalion of the 13th Battalion Airborne Division. He landed in Normandy with them and, having done the requisite number of jumps, became a fully-qualified Paratrooper.” Date of Award: 29 March 1947 BRIAN’S STORY A ‘qualified paratrooper’, Brian, also known as Bing, served with the 13th Battalion Airborne Regiment. When war broke out, he was growing fast and eating far more than the Fetch family from Loughborough’s small ration could sustain, so they answered the country’s call and Brian joined up with the Army War Dog Training School. Following his training, Brian was posted to the 13th Lancashire Parachute Battalion. Selected to take part in a two-week parachute training course with the ‘scout and sniper unit,’ he was one of only three dogs to successfully finish the course and jumped into action seven times in total. “BRIAN HAD TO BE CUT DOWN FROM A TREE, UNDER FIRE ...” As the D-Day landings began on 7 June 1944, Brian was parachuted into the Normandy town of Ranville. The jump didn’t go according to plan and Brian had to be cut down from a tree, under fire, by fellow paratrooper, Sergeant Ken Bailey. For the next few months, the two fought side by side as the Allies pushed on towards Berlin, and despite sustaining minor injuries, Brian continued to perform his sniffer dog and sentry duties with distinction. -
JUDGING the BORDER COLLIE (From a Working Perspective) by Janet E
JUDGING THE BORDER COLLIE (From a Working Perspective) By Janet E. Larson (About the author: Janet Larson bought her first Border Collie, Caora Con’s Pennant-UD from a dairy farm in 1968. He was of Carroll Shaffner, Fred Bahnson and Edgar Gould breeding. She purchased her foundation bitch, Caora Con’s Bhan-righ, a grand daughter of Gilchrist Spot and Wiston Cap from Arthur Allen in 1972. Four dogs from this original line graduated from Guiding Eyes for the Blind, many have competed in herding trials, earned obedience and schutzhund titles to include: VX-Caora Con’s Black Bison-SchH3, CDX, WC; VX, HCh-Caora Con’s Black Magnum-BH, SchH2, HX, CDX; HCh-Thornhill Meg-HX; Ch.X-Ivyrose Maya-HS, HX; Ch.X-Caora Con’s Ceitlyn-PT, HS, HIAs; Ch.X- Caora Con’s Pendragon-PT, HSAs and Ch- Caora Con’s Ceiradwen-PT. Her Group placing, Nationally ranked, V, Ch.X-Caora Con’s Gaidin Lan-HS, CDX, BH, TT is also descended from these original dogs. She is a strong believer in the “total dog” concept: working ability, temperament, soundness and good structure. All of her cur- rent breeding stock are pure British lines, have Championships with herding titles, dual OFA and PennHip ed, and CERF ed for clear eyes. In 1976, while still in high school, she founded the Bor- der Collie Club of America, and edited Border Collie News for 19 years. She wrote the first edi- tion of The Versatile Border Collie in 1986. The book was runner up for the Dog Writers Association of America Best Breed Book award. -

PREFACE This Middle Rio Grande Ecosystem: Bosque Biological Management Plan was developed to bring change to the way the biological resources of the riparian ecosystem, from Cochiti Dam to San Marcial, New Mexico, are managed. More specifically, it was our charge to do this "as a first step toward restoring the Bosque's health," as directed by the Rio Grande Bosque Conservation Committee that created our team in 1992.
