  • ''The Resistance Front'': Old Wine in a New Bottle
''The Resistance Front'': Old Wine in a New Bottle It is a well-known fact that terrorist and insurgent groups best flourish in an environment fraught with instability, chaos and social upheaval, which provides them with favourable conditions to exploit local grievances and run recruitment and propaganda campaigns among the vulnerable population. This is not an exception to the case of the freshly-established terrorist organisation “The Resistance Front” (TRF), which is currently operative in the region of Indian-administered Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). Years of violent conflict and proxy warfare, coupled with the ongoing deadly COVID-19 pandemic have contributed to a sense of disarray in the area, which has been readily hijacked by violent extremist ideologies. The current article will describe in-depth the genesis and organisational structure of the TRF. It will further illuminate its links with Pakistan’s military establishment and its intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and discuss its ongoing strategy of diverting attention from Rawalpindi’s trusted terrorist proxies such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), for the purposes of giving them space for recalibration and ostensibly changing the character of the violent extremism in the region. In order to highlight the latter argument, the article will thoroughly examine the TRF’s social media approach and stress upon the group’s innovativeness and activeness vis-à-vis the utilisation of digital platforms, which has been rather unseen before in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). The article will conclude by arguing that what is widely described as a new wave of terrorism in Kashmir is simply an old wine in new bottle – a fresh label placed on already existing practices.

The APDP was formed in 1994 to organize efforts to seek justice and get information on the whereabouts of missing family members. It presently consists of family members of about one thousand victims. APDP actively campaigns for an end to the practice and crime of involuntary and enforced disappearances at local, national and international platforms. Members of the APDP have been engaged in documenting enforced disappearances in Kashmir since 1989 and have collected information on over one thousand such cases, so far. Please ensure that any reproduction or re-use is done in accordance with the relevant national copyright legislation. Approval Name: Maliha Siddiqi Degree: Master of Arts Title: “The valley of desire”: A study of Kashmir as portrayed through popular Indian cinema Zoë Druick Senior Supervisor Professor Katherine Reilly Program director Associate Professor Date Defended/Approved: 31st August 2020 ii Abstract Indian-administered Kashmir has been a conflicted territory since 1947. This paper studies the representation of Kashmir and its civilian population in popular Hindi films. As Bollywood has an immensely dedicated audience, both in India as well as globally, the sensitive issues surrounding Kashmir make for extremely sought-after and therefore potentially influential content in films. I argue that these films reflect a sharp bias and a myopic approach towards showcasing the area and its civilian population. This paper employs the use of film analysis and critical discourse analysis to examine seven films — Mission Kashmir (2000), Yahaan (2005),Fanaa (2006), I am (2010), Lamhaa (2010), Haider (2014) and Hamid (2018) — to support the argument. The results show that all the films except Haider and Hamid misrepresent or underrepresent the realities of Kashmir.

  • A Study on Vehicular Movement Analysis of Some Specified Areas in the City of Srinagar
International Journal of Engineering Trends and Applications (IJETA) – Volume 4 Issue 6, Nov-Dec 2017 RESEARCH ARTICLE OPEN ACCESS A Study on Vehicular Movement Analysis of Some Specified Areas in the City Of Srinagar Irfan Yousuf [1], Mumtaz Mohammad Jahangir [2], Amanullah khan [3], Pakeeza Jhan[4] Department of Civil Engineering Lovely Professional University, Phagwara Punjab - India ABSTRACT As the Srinagar city is one of a beautiful city in the country with the growth of population the demand of transportation system has been in the greater amount. The prime element of a transportation system is to provide better traffic facility which should not involve congestion, accidents, vague traffic lights and unmannered parking on roads. Presently the Srinagar city faces all these challenges especially in some areas like Lal Chowk, Batamaloo, Pantha Chowk have huge rush of traffic throughout the day because of the reason the Lal chowk is not only commercial hub of city but the famous schools, colleges, government and private offices are located in this area, batamaloo has the largest bus stand in the city which connects the Srinagar to other rural areas of the Kashmir valley and Pantha Chowk connects the Srinagar with national highway-1 by which it connects with rest of India.so there are some factors to deal with transportation problem as follows regulation, planning, designing, enforcement and accident analysis. Through this paper, we will show the present scenario of roads, footpaths and traffic lights in these areas are not up to mark need to be emphasis by showing the statics of vehicle growth and forecasting for future and accident rate to locate the black spots which do not only help in planning but to improve traffic.
