Wexford Coaching & Games Development Monthly Report Month: June Camps & Participation Events - “Providing children a fun & safe environment to participate in Gaelic Games Summer Camps 2016 So far over 2,500 people have signed up and we are likely to see further increases in attendances this year. It is advised that you don’t leave your booking until the last minute. Online booking is the only way to guarantee your place at this year’s Cul Camps. Places can be booked online at: https://www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie Camps start on July 4th and will run over the summer with the last week running August 15th. Gear distribution has also commenced with anyone that booked before June 10th due to be delivered gear at their camp before the end of June. Anyone that books between June 10th and the Friday before their camp will get their gear on the Tuesday of their camp week at latest. Those that book on the week of camps will get their gear on the week of camp where possible but may be later depending on sizes in stock. Cloughbawn GAA are the winners of The People newspaper group competition for a club to win a star coaching session with Conor McDonald, Mark Fanning and Katrina Parrock. The county stars will be running a session for Cloughbawn GAA in the near future. Spectators were treated to some top quality skill and talent from the boys and girls participating in the glorious sun shine. Secondary Schools All Secondary Schools activities were finalised in May. The plans are in place to begin programmes in all schools again in September working off feedback from planning meetings and surveys filled out by schools over the last few months. The Transition year coaching and leadership course will run from September to December in all schools for 2016/17 with the first year functional movement and skill development taking over from January to April 2017. Coaching support to school teams will be on-going with schools who have expressed a particular need for this, or are struggling to field teams, receiving priority coaching. The workshops provide teachers with practical sessions to incorporate GAA in their PE class through Fun games and Fundamental movement skills along with ideas on ways to bring numeracy and literacy into the PE class. CE Coaching Scheme Our CE coaching scheme, which works in 98 Primary schools, during the school year, finishes for the year on the 22nd of June with all schools having received a minimum of 8 weeks GAA coaching in 2015/16. Primary School Fun Days & Blitz Wexford C & G have been helping schools run blitzes and fun days throughout May & June to round off the Year coaching. Wexford Park was opened up to all Wexford town schools for Blitz days on the 25th and 26th of May and was very successful with over 400 children participating in Hurling and football over the two days. Wexford C &G have assisted running and facilitating school fun days and blitzes involving 30 schools over the past month. The team received coaching and assistance from Wexford G&C and were joint winners of the Blitz. Féile Skills Competition On 25th May, 39 players descended on Halo Tiles Ferns centre of Excellence to compete in the Feile Skills Competition. There was stiff competition and great skill on show from the players representing their clubs and schools. In July Wexford Coaching & Games are organising a football & hurling blitz. This will be a great opportunity as players will get to experience what it is like to wear the purple and gold colours while playing their sport. This blitz will be held in Wexford GAA Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence, Ferns. See below attendance at U13 Model Og Football Sunday 19th June. Our Under 14 footballers are heading to play Meath North and South where the venue has yet to be confirmed. Our under 15 footballers are playing Louth and Wicklow in their blitz which will take place in Centre of Excellence, Wicklow. In preparation for this blitz our u15 have their final challenge game next weekend where they are playing Carlow in Bunclody. Our under 16 footballers may be playing in a Leinster GAA tournament where all details must be confirmed. In preparation for this our under 16 are playing Tipperary in a challenge In Tipperary next weekend. Our U17 North and South Celtic Cup teams won both their finals. Where South Wexford beat Kerry by 2 points on a score line of 4:11 to 2:16 and North Wexford defeated North Dublin by 4:13 to 1:15. Well done to all players and parents who were involved in both under 17 wins and also a big thank you to all our Academy Players and Parents for their effort and support so far this year. Under 17 football trials will be starting in the next week or so in preparation for our Matty Forde Tournament which is due to take place on the August 13th. Contact Us: Email: [email protected] Website: http://www.wexfordgaa.ie/coaching Staff Profiles: http://www.wexfordgaa.ie/coaching/meet-the-coaches/ Wexford Coaching & Games Development Monthly Report U17 Celtic Cup: Wexford U-17 North and South teams claimed victory in the U17 Celtic Cup on Saturday 18th June in Nowlan Park which showed that the good old days of Wexford hurling is not a thing of the past and we definitely got a glimpse of the not too distant future, with all the work that is going into Coaching and player development thanks to our excellent coaching set up at underage level. The North Squad were the first team to step up to the Celtic Challenge and took the Division 3 Title over Dublin in style. A huge well done to the 25 man panel and Management team of Mick Byrne, Harry Byrne, Damien Barcoe, Joe Kelly and Eoin Morrissey with a fully deserved 4-13 to 1- 15 win. The South Squad overcame a strong physical Kerry team who got the better of a 14 player Wexford side on several occasions throughout the 60 mins but a never give up attitude and determination rose its head and the South side battled it out to the final whistle for a well deserved win 4.11 to 2.15. A huge well done to the panel and management of Martin Lynch Shane O Hanlon, Johnny Doyle, Marion Doyle and Eoin Morrissey. These courses were delivered by our full time games development team and have been a real hit with people who have attended. We are delighted to host the event with Coordinator Martin Lynch. The course is now coming to an end for the term.
