Information Book 2020 BUÍOCHAS As my fourth term as Public Relations Officer of Wexford GAA I am delighted to be able to continue with this annual publication of our Wexford GAA Club directory. This small but vital little book has now become an important tool for all club managers and officers and provides a comprehensive list of names and contact details of everyone attached to Wexford GAA both adult and underage. Thanks to all clubs for their submission of their details. At county level we are reaching new highs in our hurling and we are getting there with football. As Public Relations Officer, I ask each club to keep promoting everything that is good about your club and everything that is good about Wexford GAA and together we will get there. Sea angling is available along the entire coastline from Dundalk in County Louth to Ballyteigue Bay in County Wexford. You will find many fantastic venues and a multitude of species throughout the region. Whether fishing from the shore or from a licenced charter boat there is terrific sport to be had, and small boat operators will find many suitable slipways for their vessels. At venues such as Cahore in Co. Wexford small boat anglers battle with fast running Tope, Smoothhound, and Ray. Kilmore Quay in South Wexford is a centre of excellence for angling boasting all types of fishing for the angler. There is a great selection of chartered boats and the facilities for small boat fishing are second to none. Anglers can go reef fishing for Pollack, Wrasse, Cod, and Ling. From springtime onwards at various venues shore anglers lure, fly, and bait fish for the hard fighting Bass, while specialist anglers target summer Mullet and winter Flounder. In recent years black bream have been turning up in good numbers in the Wexford area and this species has recently been added to the Irish specimen fish listing.

    The College GAA Connection Dunamaggin and St. Kieran's College On Sunday 16th April last, two young Dunamaggin men contributed significantly to St. Kieran's College defeating St. Flannan's College, Ennis in the All Ireland Colleges Senior A hurling final. That win gave the College a record 14 Croke Cup titles. The crucial score was a fine individual goal hard earned and well taken by Liam Heffernan from Caherleske. He was assisted by Seaghan O'Neill, who also contributed mightily to a famous Colleges victory. These two, of course, have become accustomed to winning championships in recent years with outstanding Dunamaggin underage teams. In an article of this length it would be impossible to mention every student from Dunnamaggin parish who played hurling and football for the College because there has been a long tradition of students and seminarians who wore the black and white hoops. Students from the parish of Dunnamaggin have played hurling in St. Kieran's College since the beginnings of the school in the early nineteenth century. However Gaelic Games were not formally organised among the Colleges until 1905 and it was only at that stage hurling superseded rugby as the principle game in the school. St. Kierans first took part in the Leinster Colleges championships in hurling and football in 1922. But it was not until 1941 that a Dunnamaggin player featured on a St. Kieran's winning Leinster side. That was Pat O'Neill of Ballintee who played at wing forward on a team captained by Tommy Maher (later Monsignor). Monsignor Pat, now a retired pastor in California, presented Dunnamaggin club with their Clubman of the year trophy.
