Camogie Association & GAA Information and Guidance leaflet on the National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 March 2015 1 National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Act The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 is the vetting legislation passed by the Houses of the Oireachtas in December 2012. This legislation is part of a suite of complementary legislative proposals to strengthen child protection policies and practices in Ireland. Once the ‘Vetting Bureau Act’ commences the law on vetting becomes formal and obligatory and all organisations and their volunteers or staff who with children and vulnerable adults will be legally obliged to have their personnel vetted. Such personnel must be vetted prior to the commencement of their work with their Association or Sports body. It is important to note that prior to the Act commencing that the Associations’ policy stated that all persons who in a role of responsibility work on our behalf with children and vulnerable adults has to be vetted. This applies to those who work with underage players. (The term ‘underage’ applies to any player who is under 18 yrs of age, regardless of what team with which they play). The introduction of compulsory vetting, on an All-Ireland scale through legislation, merely formalises our previous policies and practices. 1 When will the Act commence or come into operation? The Act is effectively agreed in law but has to be ‘commenced’ by the Minister for Justice and Equality who decides with his Departmental colleagues when best to commence all or parts of the legislation at any given time.

2015 2016 ANNUAL REPORT www.mic.ul.ie fl MIC ANNUAL REPORT 15-16 PAGE 2 Professor Peadar Cremin President of Mary Immaculate College 1999 - 2011 In 1999 Professor Cremin was appointed as the first lay President of the College in 101 years. Over the term of his presidency, the College community expanded dramatically with, by the time of his retirement in 2011, over 3,000 students enrolled on 30 different academic programmes at under - graduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Professor Cremin contributed hugely to the development of the College, including the growth in student numbers, the introduction of new academic programmes and the physical transformation of the campus. He oversaw the completion of a major capital investment programme to a total of €40 million, resulting in the provision of class-leading facilities that include Tailteann, our award winning multi-purpose sports complex, and TARA – a teaching and recreational building. Professor Cremin was also the driving force behind the establishment of Limerick's premier theatre venue, the very successful 510-seat Lime Tree Theatre. Throughout his long and exceptional career in Mary Immaculate College, Peadar-as he was always known - made an indelible mark in three respects particularly. He was a natural leader, as likely in company to make the first foray into tale or rhyme as he was, amongst colleagues, to set an ambitious vision and marshall all and sundry towards its realisation. Secondly, with remarkable tenacity, and in the face of towering odds, he succeeded in orchestrating the physical transformation of the campus by wrestling funds from an economy entering free-fall in mid-2008.

  • Wexford GAA U11 Skill League 2018 Info Sheet
Wexford GAA U11 Skill League 2018 What is the U11 Skill League The U11 skill league is a new hybrid model combining the go games model with an adaptive competition model that will incorporate points or scores for the successful completion of a specific skill. The adaptive competition model is one that encourages competition while also allowing teams to find their own level by pitching teams against others of a similar level on our “Kent Stainless Football” or “Halo Tiles Hurling” Finals days. The U11 skill leagues are small sided games where the pitch size and rules are modified to ensure that participants are challenged and supported to develop the basic skills of the game and derive maximum fun and enjoyment while doing so. The more confidance that players have in their own ability and the greater the level of the enjoyment that they derive from developing and expressing this, the more likely they are to maintain a lifelong involvement in Gaelic Games. U11 Skill League will have a #PositiveSidelines appeal for 2018, coaches and parents are asked to only make positive comments towards both players and referees. Benefits • Promotes full participation • Puts and emphasis on skill development (high catch) • Appropriate pitch size and numbers • More touches of the ball • More efficient use of facilities (multiple games on a pitch) • Repeated decesion making experience • Emphasis on player development rather than winning • Less preceived stress on players • Less emphasis on goals & points Camps & Participation Events – “Providing children a fun & safe environment to participate in Gaelic Games” How will these games work? The U11 skill league is a new model and it must be understood that unforeseen occurrences may arise in which case Wexford C&G will act accordingly.

Email: [email protected] Phone: 053 9259821 Email: [email protected] Phone: 053 9421374 Dear Service Provider “Progressing Disability Services for Children and Young People is a National directive whose aim is to provide one clear pathway to services for all children and young people with a disability, focusing on the needs of the child/young person and their family”. As part of this directive the HSE formed a Local Implementation Group comprising of HSE personnel involved in the delivery of Paediatric Services. Parent, Department of Education and Section 39 Voluntary agency representatives will also become involved in this process as we move forward. While reviewing current service provision it became apparent that there was a lack of awareness of all the support services that are available for children and their parents in the Wexford area. In order to address this deficit we have put together the attached directory of local supports both Voluntary and HSE run in County Wexford. This directory includes: Parenting Programmes Advocacy Groups Mother and Toddler Groups National Disability Organisations This list while comprehensive is not an exhaustive therefore we would appreciate it if you could inform us of any new developments or groups which may not have been included. We would be grateful if you could distribute this directory to any group or parent whom you feel would benefit from the information.
