Dear Families, Contents Once again, NYS is looking ahead to another season of new and expanded programs, services and 1: SAFE SITTER events. CLASSES FOR KIDS ENTERING GRADES 4-8 TO PREPARE THEM TO BE SAFE WHEN THEY’RE HOME ALONE, WATCHING YOUNGER SIBLINGS, OR BABYSITTING. SAFE@HOME Tuesday, July 2, 2019 ∙ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm Designed to prepare students entering grades 4-6 to be safe when they are home alone. Students learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. Class fee is $45/$55. Class is held at the Newburyport Rec Center and taught by certified Safe Sitter® Instructors. SAFE SITTER® ESSENTIALS WITH CPR Monday, April 22, 2019 ∙ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm Tuesday-Wednesday, June 25 & 26, 2019 ∙ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm Designed for students entering grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice choking rescue and CPR! Class fee is $135/$145. Classes are held at the Newburyport Rec Center and taught by certified Safe Sitter® Instructors. SAFE SITTER® EXPANDED Tuesday-Thursday, July 16, 17, & 18, 2019 ∙ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Designed for students entering grades 6-8, Safe Sitter Expanded® includes all of the course content in Safe Sitter® Essentials with CPR, with additional instruction in online safety, behavior management, additional practice in choking rescue, and a guest section where students can interact with a toddler or preschool-age visitor.
