It was originally opened in 1916, named after Edward Branthwaite Moser, a former housemaster at the school. Moser bequeathed his extensive collection of fine nineteenth-century water- colour paintings to the school, and these are displayed in a gallery adjoining the main Library building. In 2017 the library reopened following a major refurbishment programme designed to create a modern independent learning environment which still preserved the heritage of the original building. The architect for the project was Old Salopian Adrian James, and the school is very grateful to the major donors, the Cassidy Family and Mr Kenneth Ng, as well as to all the Old Salopians and parents who supported the project. The Moser Library provides access to approximately 40,000 print books, 400 e-books and over 800 audio books, a wide selection of print and online magazines and newspapers. Our new-look Moser Library has a variety of study spaces designed to accommodate different styles of learning, from quiet individual study and research to interactive seminar style group work. There are areas where students can make themselves comfortable in a leather armchair to encourage students to curl up and read. There are spaces designed to locate exhibitions, events and academic society meetings.
