NEW SOUTH WALES GOVERNMENT GAZETTE No. 22 22 February 2008 SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT 1215 In the Schedule to this notification: “General Regulation” means the Fisheries Management (General) Regulation 2002. Latitude and longitude coordinates are in WGS84 datum. The provisions of this fishing closure in respect of endorsement holders in the Estuary General, Ocean Hauling, Ocean Trawl and Ocean Trap and Line fisheries have effect despite any provisions in the Fisheries Management (Estuary General Share Management Plan) Regulation 2006, Fisheries Management (Ocean Hauling Share Management Plan) Regulation 2006, Fisheries Management (Ocean Trap and Line Share Management Plan) Regulation 2006 and the Fisheries Management (Ocean Trawl Share Management Plan) Regulation 2006. This fishing closure is effective from the date of publication of this notification until Friday 14 March 2008 unless sooner amended or revoked, noting that this notification may be amended or revoked by way of a special supplement in the Government Gazette on any week day. Note: The purpose of this fishing closure is to modify an earlier closure dealing with an environmental emergency, being the protection of fish displaced by severe flooding in the region and to enable replenishment of fish stocks, so as to enable certain line fishing methods for pelagic fish which will not compromise the objectives of the earlier closure. These events include street parades, motor races, cycling races, jazz festivals, cultural celebrations, sporting events, open air theatres and concerts, and balls or dance parties and can often attract large numbers of people. A lot of time and effort goes into planning and promoting these events and they are often seen as a way of creating employment and providing economic benefits for the local community. Councils play a variety of roles, from event manager to consent authority, and have to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages for everyone in their community before they give approval for the event to go ahead. Events are often complex and may depend on approvals from a range of different agencies. The key to staging a successful event is good communication, as early as possible in the process, between the promoter of the event and the local council and other consent authorities such as the Police and the Environment Protection Authority.

About the NSW Department of Local Government The NSW Department of Local Government's role is to provide a policy and legislative framework for the local government sector. hjhiV^cVWaZ We are principally a policy and regulatory agency, acting as a central agency for local government with a key role in managing the relationship between councils and the state government. We are responsible for the overall legal, management X]Vc\Z and financial framework of the local government sector. Our operating relationships are with state organisations, councils and peak organisations that represent councils and their various constituent interests. This includes the Local Government and Shires Associations (LGSA) which are the main representatives of councils in both political and employer arrangements, as well as the various professional organisations and unions that represent groups of local government employees.
