DENMARK ISLANDS Self Drive Zealand, Funen and Aeroe, 5 days Day 1: ARRIVE COPENHAGEN Arrival Kastrup Copenhagen Airport and pick up rental car. Drive to your hotel. The capital is full of attractions, most of them located within walking distance in the city centre. We recommend a visit to the Tivoli Gardens (only seasonal openings, to be advised upon request) the Amalienborg Palace, the Christiansborg Palace (Danish Parliament), the Gefion Fountain, the old harbour ‘Nyhavn’, the Little Mermaid, the Round Tower, the museum of Carlsberg or one of the many other museums of art, culture, history and design. Also remember time to enjoy the pedestrian shopping streets of Strøget and surroundings. Accommodation at 3 star+ class hotel in Copenhagen, centrally located Day 2: COPENHAGEN - ODENSE Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Copenhagen westward through farming countryside and small villages, some of which were founded by Vikings more than a thousand years ago. Upon arrival in Roskilde - until 1417, the capital of Denmark – we recommend a visit to the Viking Ship Museum, containing the remains of 5 Viking vessels which have been salvaged from the bed of Roskilde Fjord, where they were sunk more than a thousand years ago to prevent aggressive intruders gaining access to the town from the sea. After visiting the museum, a short drive to the Town Square, to visit the twin-spired Roskilde Cathedral. The construction of the cathedral was commenced during the 12th Century and additions have been made through the ages, in different architectural styles. The cathedral is the traditional burial place of Danish monarchs and contains more than 40 royal graves. -

Strontium-90, radiocesium, and other radionuclides were deter mined in samples from all over the country of air, precipitation, stream water, lake water, ground water, drinking water, sea water, soil, sediments, dried milk, fresh milk, meat, fish, cheese, eggs, grain, bread, potatoes, vegetables, fruit, grass, moss, lichen, sea plants, total diet, and humans. Estimates are given of the mean contents of radiostrontium and radiocesium in the human diet in Denmark during 198S and 1989. Tritium was determined in precipita tion, ground water, other fresh waters, and sea water. The -/-background was measured regularly by TLD's and a Nal detector. The marine environments at Barseback and Ringhals were monitored for t3/Cs and corrosion products (5«Co,«>Co,MZn,WMn). During 1988 and 1989 the expanded programme initiated after the Cherno byl accident in 1986 was brought back to the pre-Chernobyl level. Viking-Age Runic Plates of the Runic Plates Have Been Conducted with a Stereomicroscope for This Purpose
The aim of this dissertation is to represent as clearly as possible the genre of Viking- Age runic plates by developing readings and interpretations of the inscriptions on the 46 metal plates with runes from the Viking Age known today. Several investigations SOFIA PERESWETOFF-MORATH • • PERESWETOFF-MORATH SOFIA Viking-Age Runic Plates of the runic plates have been conducted with a stereomicroscope for this purpose. On the basis of the new readings thus established, new interpretations have been pro- posed for the most problematic sections of previously interpreted inscriptions. New interpretations are also offered for inscriptions on runic plates which have previously been considered non-lexical. As well as providing new readings and interpretations, this study has resulted in clarification of the relationship between the form and content of the inscriptions on the runic plates on the one hand and on their find circumstances and appearance on the other. An argued documentation of the readings can be found in an accompanying catalogue in Swedish which is published digitally and can be downloaded as a pdf file at: <http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-383584> Viking-Age Runic Plates Viking-Age Distribution: Sofia Pereswetoff-Morath eddy.se ab e-post: [email protected] ISSN 0065-0897 and Box 1310, 621 24 Visby. Accompanying Persons' Tour
Strategic Farming in Scandinavia 27th June to 2nd July 2021 in Copenhagen, Denmark. For More Information Visit: www.ifma23.org Accompanying Persons’ Tour (Preliminary plan) Time Schedule Monday, 28th June, 2021 and Wednesday, 30th June, 2021 Visit Castles outside Copenhagen and experience historic Denmark. The Accompanying persons’ Tour aims to show you some of the best historic sites outside Copenhagen whilst driving along the coast and through beautiful countryside. We aim to give you a sense of rural Denmark and an opportunity to see typical Danish historic towns whilst visiting famous historic castles, our world UNESCO heritage Cathedral and delving back to the time of the Vikings. The end of June is arguably the best time to visit Denmark when we experience the longest days of the year with maximum sunlight and often lovely weather to match. Monday, 28th June On Monday, 28th June, we will take the coastal road North out of Copenhagen to Helsingør, a traditional coastal town and the “gateway to the Baltic.” Helsingør looks out over the waters of “Øresund” to Sweden and is a strategic point to place a castle. Ships passing into the Baltic Sea paid tolls at Kronborg Castle which was founded in 1420, and Helsingør was once one of the most important towns in Europe. In 2000, Kronborg Castle became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was also the setting for Shakespeare’s play “Hamlet” which he called Elsinor. We will go back in time and be shown around the castle by Horatio, Hamlet’s trusted friend! We will then be ready for a well- deserved typical Danish lunch at an idyllic setting at a thatched cottage restaurant in the woods by a lake not far from Helsingør.
