Allocation Statement September 2016 Year 7 Intake Ashton Park School As Ashton Park is oversubscribed, the criteria stated in the booklet “A guide for parents and carers on applying for a secondary school place for the school year 2016-2017” have been applied to allocate the places that are available at the school. 434 on-time applications have been received for Ashton Park School which has an admission number of 216. 2 places are required at the school as it is named in their Statement of Special Educational Need/ Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP). The remaining 214 places have been allocated using the Academy’s published admissions criteria as follows; How the Initial Allocation of Places was made The 214 places have been offered to the following children: 1. Those children who are defined as 'Children in Care'; or children who were previously in care, but immediately after being in care became subject to an adoption, residence, or special guardianship order. Faded Memories Life and Times of a Macedonian Villager 1 The COVER PAGE is a photograph of Lerin, the main township near the villages in which many of my family ancestors lived and regularly visited. 2 ACKNOWLEGEMENTS This publication is essentially an autobiography of the life and times of my father, John Christos Vellios, Jovan Risto Numeff. It records his recollections, the faded memories, passed down over the years, about his family ancestors and the times in which they lived. My father personally knew many of the people whom he introduces to his readers and was aware of more distant ancestors from listening to the stories passed on about them over the succeeding generations. His story therefore reinforces the integrity of oral history which has been used since ancient times, by various cultures, to recall the past in the absence of written, documentary evidence. This publication honours the memory of my father’s family ancestors and more generally acknowledges the resilience of the Macedonian people, who destined to live, seemingly forever under foreign subjugation, refused to deny their heritage in the face of intense political oppression and on-going cultural discrimination. This account of life and times of a Macedonian villager would not have been possible without the support and well-wishes of members of his family and friends whose own recollections have enriched my father’s narrative. I convey my deepest gratitude for the contributions my father’s brothers, my uncles Sam, Norm and Steve and to his nephew Phillip (dec), who so enthusiastically supported the publication of my father’s story and contributed on behalf of my father’s eldest brother Tom (dec) and his family. -

Introduction Bristol ChemLabS will have been operational for two years on 31st March 2007 and it is one of the roles of the annual meeting of the Advisory Board to receive the Annual Report. HEFCE require an interim report after two years from all CETLs (due by 31st July 2007), and the Annual Report this year is therefore presented in the form of a draft version of the HEFCE Report required in four months time. The final Report to HEFCE will be in the form of a glossy which will contain several photographs and some short sections from other authors; these are not included here. 2. The Genesis of Bristol ChemLabS The Bidding Process In early 2004, the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) announced an invitation for departments or consortia of departments in higher education institutions (HEIs) to bid for funds to become a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). In April of that year, the School of Chemistry (SoC) through the University of Bristol (UoB) submitted a bid to the Stage 1 process, the primary focus of which was to become a CETL in the teaching and learning of practical, laboratory-based chemistry for undergraduates. -
Anthropology of Tobacco
Anthropology of Tobacco Tobacco has become one of the most widely used and traded commodities on the planet. Reflecting contemporary anthropological interest in material culture studies, Anthropology of Tobacco makes the plant the centre of its own contentious, global story in which, instead of a passive commodity, tobacco becomes a powerful player in a global adventure involving people, corporations and public health. Bringing together a range of perspectives from the social and natural sciences as well as the arts and humanities, Anthropology of Tobacco weaves stories together from a range of historical, cross-cultural and literary sources and empirical research. These combine with contemporary anthropological theories of agency and cross-species relationships to offer fresh perspectives on how an apparently humble plant has progressed to world domination, and the consequences of it having done so. It also considers what needs to happen if, as some public health advocates would have it, we are seriously to imagine ‘a world without tobacco’. This book presents students, scholars and practitioners in anthropology, public health and social policy with unique and multiple perspectives on tobacco-human relations. Andrew Russell is Associate Professor in Anthropology at Durham University, UK, where he is a member of the Anthropology of Health Research Group. His research and teaching spans the sciences, arts and humanities, and mixes both theoretical and applied aspects. He has conducted research in Nepal, the UK and worldwide. Earlier books include The Social Basis of Medicine, which won the British Medical Association’s student textbook of the year award in 2010, and a number of edited volumes, the latest of which (co-edited with Elizabeth Rahman) is The Master Plant: Tobacco in Lowland South America. -
