Georgia Southern University Former Eagle Marty Pevey Earns 1,000th Win as a Minor League Manager Iowa Cubs defeat Nashville Sounds 6-3 to reach the milestone Baseball Posted: 4/13/2018 12:57:00 PM NASHVILLE - A 2008 inductee to the Georgia Southern Baseball Wall of Fame, Marty Pevey earned his 1,000th win as a minor league manager on Thursday night. Pevey's Iowa Cubs took a 6-3 win over the Nashville Sounds in 11 innings to reach the milestone number and become the winningest manager in Iowa Cubs history. In three seasons with the Eagles, Pevey helped the Eagles reach the 1980 NCAA Atlantic Regional at Clemson, playing the 1980-82 seasons where he was a part of 113 total wins. In 1982, he was drafted in the 19th round by the Minnesota Twins. He reached the big leagues in the spring of 1989 with the Montreal Expos, playing in 13 games. Pevey has served as the manager of the Iowa Cubs since 2013, playing an instrumental role in the development of the Cubs' young roster that won the 2016 World Series. He has won 356 games in Iowa and is the franchise's all-time winningest manager. He joined the Cubs organization in 2009 with the Peoria Chiefs (A) before moving to the AAA level in 2013. His career as a minor league manager has included stops at all five levels of the Toronto Blue Jays organization before serving two stints with the big club as bullpen coach, first base coach and third base coach. TRIPLE-A BASEBALL NEWS RELEASE June 14, 2018 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FIELD STAFFS ANNOUNCED FOR 2018 TRIPLE-A ALL-STAR GAME Columbus Clippers manager Chris Tremie and Iowa Cubs skipper Marty Pevey have been tabbed the managers of their respective league’s All-Star teams for the 2018 Huntington Bank Triple-A All-Star Game, presented by Gildan. The 31st annual contest will take place at Huntington Park in downtown Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, July 11 at 7:00 EDT. Having already guided the IL to victory in the Triple-A All-Star Game in 2016, Chris Tremie returns to the event for a chance to manage in front of his home fans in Columbus. Tremie is in his sixth season leading the Clippers. During his time with Cleveland’s Triple-A affiliate, Tremie has led the Clippers to a run of three straight division titles (2014-16) which included an International League Governors’ Cup championship in 2015. This marks the fifth time overall a Columbus manager has served in that capacity in the Triple-A All-Star Game, which includes Bucky Dent (1989) and Mike Sarbaugh (2011-12). Tremie will be joined by several familiar faces in the International League dugout as the entire Columbus field staff takes part in the All-Star festivities. Pitching coach Steve Karsay, currently in his third season with the Clippers, played for five Major League teams between 1993 and 2006. Johnny Narron and Bobby Magallanes are each in their first year as a member of the Clippers staff as hitting coach and bench coach, respectively.

2021 swb railriders 2021 swb railriders triple-a information On February 12, 2021, Major League Baseball announced its new plan for affiliated baseball, with 120 Minor League clubs officially agreeing to join the new Professional Development League (PDL). In total, the new player development system includes 179 teams across 17 leagues in 43 states and four provinces. Including the AZL and GCL, there are 209 teams across 19 leagues in 44 states and four provinces. That includes the 150 teams in the PDL and AZL/GCL along with the four partner leagues: the American Association, Atlantic League, Frontier League and Pioneer League. The long-time Triple-A structure of the International and Pacific Coast Leagues have been replaced by Triple-A East and Triple-A West. Triple-A East consists on 20 teams; all 14 from the International League, plus teams moving from the Pacific Coast League, the Southern League and the independent Atlantic League. Triple-A West is comprised of nine Pacific Coast League teams and one addition from the Atlantic League. December 18, 2014 ESPNChicago.com Cubs trade Justin Ruggiano to Seattle By Jesse Rogers CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs traded outfielder Justin Ruggiano to the Seattle Mariners for minor league pitcher Matt Brazis, the team announced Wednesday. Brazis, 25, is 8-6 with a 2.89 ERA in 100 minor league relief appearances since being drafted in the 28th round by Seattle in 2012. He finished last season at Double-A and struck out 84 while walking only 18 in 72 innings pitched last year. In the short term the move opens a 40-man roster spot for pitcher Jason Motte, who agreed to terms with the Cubs this week, though they haven’t made the signing official yet. In the longer term the Cubs now have a need for a right-handed hitter who could share time in left field with Chris Coghlan. A trade for an impact player like Justin Upton of the Atlanta Braves is unlikely, which leaves the Cubs filling the need with a role player. Jonny Gomes has drawn interest and the Ruggiano move could pave the way for his signing. The Cubs want leadership in the clubhouse and Gomes has a history with new manager Joe Maddon, having played for him after Maddon took over the Tampa Bay Rays in 2006. Gomes won a World Series ring with the Boston Red Sox in 2013. The Cubs still have righties Junior Lake and Matt Szczur on their 40-man roster, but the front office has expressed a need for veteran leadership which would come from outside the organization at this point.

Seven managers return to their same teams as last season while eight of nine managers were in Chicago’s organization last year. A detailed list of each club’s managers and coaching staffs is attached, and more information on returning members of the organization may be found on pages 225-249 of the Chicago Cubs 2019 Media Guide. Marty Pevey returns for his 12th season in the organization and his eighth as manager for Triple-A Iowa and brings with over 30 years of professional experience, beginning with 13 years as a player. He last year guided Iowa to its first postseason appearance since 2008, and his 479 regular season managerial victories with Iowa are a franchise record. Michael Ryan is in his first season as manager of the Double-A Tennessee Smokies following seven seasons as a manager in the Pittsburgh Pirates chain, including the last three seasons at the helm of Double-A Altoona. He led the Curve to the Eastern League championship in 2017, the first of two-straight campaigns with Western Division titles. The former outfielder played 149 major league games with the Twins (2002-05) and Angels (2010). Steven Lerud returns for his second season as manager of Single-A Myrtle Beach, and his third as a manager in the Cubs system. He led Single-A Eugene to the 2018 Northwest League championship in his first career managerial or coaching stint.
