Georgia Southern University Former Eagle Marty Pevey Earns 1,000th Win as a Minor League Manager Iowa Cubs defeat Nashville Sounds 6-3 to reach the milestone Baseball Posted: 4/13/2018 12:57:00 PM NASHVILLE - A 2008 inductee to the Georgia Southern Baseball Wall of Fame, Marty Pevey earned his 1,000th win as a minor league manager on Thursday night. Pevey's Iowa Cubs took a 6-3 win over the Nashville Sounds in 11 innings to reach the milestone number and become the winningest manager in Iowa Cubs history. In three seasons with the Eagles, Pevey helped the Eagles reach the 1980 NCAA Atlantic Regional at Clemson, playing the 1980-82 seasons where he was a part of 113 total wins. In 1982, he was drafted in the 19th round by the Minnesota Twins. He reached the big leagues in the spring of 1989 with the Montreal Expos, playing in 13 games. Pevey has served as the manager of the Iowa Cubs since 2013, playing an instrumental role in the development of the Cubs' young roster that won the 2016 World Series. He has won 356 games in Iowa and is the franchise's all-time winningest manager. He joined the Cubs organization in 2009 with the Peoria Chiefs (A) before moving to the AAA level in 2013. His career as a minor league manager has included stops at all five levels of the Toronto Blue Jays organization before serving two stints with the big club as bullpen coach, first base coach and third base coach.
