Bringing together sport and entertainment industry leaders, students 2016 and those teaching future March 16-18 leaders of our industry #SEVT2016 @SEVTConference Columbia Marriott Downtown, COLUMBIA, SC /SEVT.org @sevtconference SEVT USC www.SEVT.org 2016 Program Cover.indd 1 3/7/16 1:26 PM "I am especially pleased to welcome attendees of the 2016 SEVT Conference to ‘Famously Hot’ Columbia. We have that title because of our warm summer season and because of the central location of our city which makes it a prime location for events, an easy community to negotiate by car or on foot, our great entertainment and recreational opportunities, and our especially hot USC sports teams, facilities and athletic department staff, plus the Flagship University of South Carolina’s campus. We are here to work with you as partners in plan- ning for our future, and I extend my best wishes to each of you for a successful meeting.” - Dr. Harris Pastides, President, University of South Carolina "I welcome you all to the 2016 SEVT Conference in Columbia, the home of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport and Entertainment Management! The SEVT Conference is a unique forum bringing both practitioners and academics to exchange cutting-edge ideas about the expanding sport, entertainment and venue industry. I wish you all a successful conference and an enjoyable stay in this vibrant city built around sport and entertainment." – Dr. Haemoon Oh, Dean, University of South Carolina College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM) 1 Department of Sport and Entertainment Management Welcome to the 2016 Sport Entertainment & Venues Tomorrow conference ---- the “conference like no other!” During the next three days you will have the opportunity to be inspired, challenged, and contribute to discussions about the future of this industry. The SEVT conference focuses on providing participants with information that will prepare them to identify areas of future growth and need, as well as develop the solutions for to morrow’s potential problems and challenges. We hope you will adopt that mindset as you actively participate in the panel discussions, keynote address es, research presentations, the career and internship fair, and our many networking opportunities. The Department of Sport and Entertainment Management at the University of South Carolina, Venues Today and IAVM Region 5 believe that the future success of this industry is dependent upon industry professionals, teaching faculty, academic researchers, and students coming together to ask questions and share insights about continued evolution of the Sport & Entertainment industry over the next decade. Topics for each SEVT session will consistently challenge attendees to address this issue. Each panel will examine a topic striving to answer “Where are we going and how do we get there?” We encourage you to explore topics outside your area of expertise whether in sessions or social functions. Ask questions, share your thoughts and opinions, and gain new knowledge in developing areas. Challenge yourself to become conversant about topics and issues that are new to you. Take advantage of the opportunity during breaks, poster sessions, and social functions to engage participants from other sectors of our industry. Expand your professional network by visiting the booths of our exhibitors and Career & Internship Fair participants to find out more about those organizations and operations. Finally, have fun and discover some of the great things “Famously Hot” Columbia and t he Midlands have to offer. Those of us that live here or visit often have found this area to be an undiscovered gem. The zoo and art museum are excellent for a city of any size; the river and lake oriented activities are most enjoyable; the Vista, Five P oints, and Main Street have unique restaurants, galleries, coffee shops, and other treasures that can only be found by walking the area; the Horseshoe at USC is one of the most beautiful campus settings anywhere. It is hard to express how glad we are to have you here. If there is anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable let one of our student coordinators or volunteers know what we can do, and they will provide you with the appropriate information or locate someone that can. Welcome to the “conference like no other!” Thank you for attending and participating in SEVT.
