    Brevard Business BBN News Vol. 33 No. 15 April 13, 2015 $1.00 A Weekly Space Coast Business Magazine with Publishing Roots in America since 1839 UCI marks its 20th year as provider in medical–imaging arena By Ken Datzman The American Cancer Society’s annual cancer–statistics report finds that a 22 percent drop in cancer mortality over two decades led to the avoidance of more than 1.5 million cancer deaths that would have occurred if peak rates had persisted. The information was released in two reports: “Cancer Statistics 2015,” published in “CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians,” and its companion, the consumer publication, “Cancer Facts & Figures 2015.” Each year, the ACS compiles the most recent data on cancer incidence, mortality, and survival based on incidence data from the National Cancer Institute, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Center for Health Statistics. Many factors have contributed to reduced cancer deaths in America, including advances in cancer prevention and early detection and treatment. Clearly, medical–imaging technol- ogy has been at the forefront of early detection and prolonging and saving lives. Various studies have linked the use of imaging examinations to longer life expect- ancy, declines in mortality, less need for exploratory surgery, fewer hospital admis- sions, and shorter lengths of hospital stays, according to research by the American College of Radiology and the Neiman Health Policy Institute, with other organizations also providing data for the report. Locally, one longtime business that special- izes in providing full medical–imaging services has seen firsthand the value of diagnostics, from both the patient and the physician perspective, and has internal data to support BBN photo — Adrienne B.

The Dans are looking for host parents/families in the Danville area for the 2009 baseball season. This summer, approximately 25 young men will move to Danville to play for the Dans, a member of the Prospect League. From June 1 through Mid-August, these aspiring “professional” ballplayers have the opportunity to hone their baseball skills. Players come from all over the United States to play for the Dans. The Host Family Program has been a vital part of the Dan’s success the past 19 years, both on and off the field.     Fort Myers Miracle will host the 2016 FSL All-Star Game All-Star Weekend in Fort Myers set for June 17-19 FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 25, 2015) - The Fort Myers Miracle are pleased to announce that the 2016 Florida State League All-Star Game will be hosted at the newly renovated Hammond Stadium at the CenturyLink Sports Complex. The 55th All-Star Game in league history will be played for a sixth time in Fort Myers since 1985 and will be put on by the Miracle for a fifth time. A three-day All-Star break will commence on Friday, June 17 and end on Sunday, June 19. The game will be played on Saturday, June 18 at 7:05 p.m. “We are thrilled to show off this state-of-the art facility after the renovations and upgrades that have improved the fan experience the last two seasons,” said Miracle Chief Operating Officer Steve Gliner. “This event will be a great opportunity not just for local fans, but also for guests from around Florida and the United States to come and experience Fort Myers, Hammond Stadium and the beautiful Southwest Florida region.” Hammond Stadium and the CenturyLink Sports Complex underwent a two-phase, $48.5 million dollar renovation that began during the fall of 2013 and was completed prior to Minnesota Twins Spring Training in the spring of 2015. Phase I included a brand new outfield boardwalk to provide 360-degree viewing, four different types of seating options, two full service bars and new concession stands in center field.
