STATIONS OF THE CROSS AT ST CUTHBERT’S: This week’s Stations of the Cross at St Cuthbert’s will be on Wednesday, 18th March at 10:00am. All are welcome to attend. CAFOD FAMILY FAST DAY: Please place any outstanding envelopes from last week’s Family Fast Day collection in the general collection this weekend. Many thanks for your generosity. LENTEN STATION MASSES: This week’s Lenten Station Mass is here at St Luke’s on Tuesday evening at 7pm. Please try to attend as part of our Lenten pilgrimage as a Local Missionary Area. CAFOD LENTEN SOUP LUNCHES: Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Soup Lunches have been suspended. Lenten Devotions and Mass at midday will continue as usual. COLLECTION FOR FLOWERS: There will be a second collection after the Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses at St Luke’s next weekend to help pay for the flowers which so beautifully decorate our church, especially during our Easter celebration. DIOCESAN MISSION FOR CATECHESIS: For priests, parents, catechists and all those interested in passing on our precious Faith in Jesus Christ in today’s world, you are welcome at the launch of the new diocesan mission for catechesis on Saturday 4th April 2020 at Our Lady Mother of the Saviour between 10.00am and 3.00 pm. These dates are especially for those in the Warrington and Runcorn deanery of the Diocese. Please bring a packed lunch. The total for 2019 was 234.42 kg, which equates to helping 18 people with a 3 day emergency food parcel. UNITY BRASS CONCERT: Thank you to everybody who supported the Churches Together in Frodsham concert at St Laurence's. An evening of music was greatly enjoyed by the local community. A total of £878 was raised for the victims fund for Modern Slavery. SINGING THE WORD! PROCLAIMING THE WORD THROUGH MUSIC: Singing the Word is a day offered by the Diocesan Liturgy Commission for cantors, singers, instrumentalists, clergy and congregations. In this Year of the Word, you are invited on Saturday 21 March from 10am to 3pm to join the Liturgy Commission at Saint John Plessington Catholic College on the Wirral. Places are £5 payable on the day to help cover costs (6 places for £25). CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS: Following guidance from the Bishops’ Conference, until further notice: Holy Communion will not be distributed under both kinds; the Host is to be received in your hand. Eucharistic Ministers will wash their hands before distributing Communion. At the Sign of Peace bow your heads to each other but do not shake hands. The collection plate will be placed on the altar to avoid the baskets being passed from hand to hand. Hymn books will not be used. Please take home the copy of the newsletter that you have used. Follow hygiene advice re. hand-washing, using and disposing of paper tissues, etc. The most vulnerable are advised to refrain from attending large parish gatherings. “God is a spring of living water which flows unceasingly into the hearts of those who pray.” (Saint Louis de Montfort) .

In memory of Oliver we shall be holding a special commemorative lecture in his honour next year. Towards the end of June we were shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Mick Aston of ‘Time Team’ fame.

    Case Study (Ashton Hayes):Layout 1 22/10/08 12:48 Page 1 case study Ashton Hayes Microgrid feasibility study Model for the installation and operation of a rural microgrid on the existing power distribution network using Ashton Hayes, Cheshire as a test-bed. Project Summary The University of Chester and EA Technology, in partnership with the community of Ashton Hayes, Cheshire, will develop a feasibility model for a rural microgrid. A microgrid would use small-scale renewable energy generated locally and connected to the main distribution network. The community will develop a local energy economy and match demand and generation profiles. Partnership • University of Chester, working with Ashton Hayes Parish Council since 2006 as part of the ‘Going Carbon Neutral’ project. • EA Technology, asset management company with 40 years of experience. Aims To develop a technical and economic specification for a rural microgrid in the village of Ashton Hayes that will be acceptable to the community. The model will be developed for the test-bed of Ashton Hayes and will produce a methodology that has the potential for application in communities across the country. The partners will find the appropriate business and economic models for the operation of the microgrid including the development of an Energy Services Company (ESCO) and the villagers will consider all options for future implementation of a microgrid in their village. Inspiration The project uses the University of Chester’s expertise in community carbon reduction programmes and social and environmental survey techniques combined with EA Technology’s technical expertise in power generation, supply and metering.

    Ashton Hayes and Horton cum Peel Parish Council candidates pen pictures Lisa Allman Lisa is married and has two teenage children. The family has lived in Ashton Hayes since 1997. Lisa is a Pharmacist and currently works for the NHS providing prescribing advice to four GP practices. Lisa has been the Chair of Ashton Hayes & Mouldsworth Community Shop Management committee since the group was formed to investigate and develop the idea of a community shop in Ashton Hayes in 2008. Lisa has served as a Parish Councillor since 2010. Lisa has represented the Parish council on the Ashton Hayes Sports and Recreation Committee and in doing so has played an active part in organising the annual Village Summer Picnics. Garry Charnock I have lived in Ashton Hayes for 30 years and been on the PC for the last 10 years. In 1988, I co- founded a communications business with my wife Anne, which eventually employed over 40 local people. I am now a Director of the RSK Group, Helsby. In 2005 I started the ‘Ashton Hayes Going Carbon Neutral Project’. This initiative has secured numerous benefits (over £500,000 worth) for the community including the new pavilion and its solar panels, plus solar panels that provide the primary school with free electricity. The footpath to Mouldsworth was also built to support our ‘carbon neutral’ aspirations. I now sit on the DECC ‘Community Energy Contact Group’ which wrote the UK’s first Community Energy Strategy, published by the Government last year. I believe in helping our community develop in sustainable ways that improve our well-being and protect our environment for future generations Jane Colville I moved to Cheshire in 1975 and Ashton Hayes in the mid eighties .

    Determined admission arrangements for 2019-2020 for Cheshire West and Chester community and voluntary controlled schools Part one Applications for school places for the normal admission round into reception the September following the child’s fourth birthday, transfer to secondary school the September following the child’s eleventh birthday and applications received for in year (i.e. into any year group outside the normal admission round), shall be determined in accordance with the provisions set out below. These admission arrangements apply to all community and voluntary controlled schools, as listed in Appendix A, admissions within the borough for the school year 2019-2020 and for subsequent years, subject to any review. Compulsory school age Children reach compulsory school age at the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday. Under the council’s policy, children may start school in the reception class in the September following their fourth birthday. Parents can request that the date their child starts school in the reception class is deferred until later in the school year or until the child reaches compulsory school age in that school year.
