Gardens to open to support Wildlife Trust THE impressive gardens, woodlands and new wildflower meadow at Ashton Grange, in Ashton Hayes is to be open on Sunday July 7 – to support Cheshire Wildlife Trust. It is the first time the garden is being opened by Kate and Martin Slack to support the Trust. The gardens include extensive lawns, borders, island beds, shrubberies, a large pond, an orchard and a kitchen garden all of which are set against mature woodlands. There is also a small paddock and a new wildflower meadow that was sown in August last year with the help of Cheshire Wildlife Trust. The whole property extends to approximately nine acres. Jo Darlington, director of fundraising and communications at the Trust said: “We’re very excited that Kate and Martin have offered to open their stunning and extensive wildlife-friendly garden for us. It’s a beautiful setting which will provide lots of inspiration for gardeners as well as a lovely afternoon out. The pond, woodland and of course the wildflower meadow we helped to establish are just a few of the highlights to look out for.” Cheshire Wildlife Trust runs a ‘Wildlife Friendly Gardening Award’ scheme, of which Ashton Grange is a proud recipient. Jo Darlington added: “The scheme is open to everyone. It doesn’t matter how big or small the outdoor space, as long as it is possible to showcase what has been done to help wildlife. This might be through creating a mini wildflower meadow, avoiding using harmful chemicals or building insect hotels.” Entries to the scheme receive a plaque, certificate, and gardening booklet. Further details about the ‘Wildlife Friendly Gardening Award’ and how to enter can be found on their website: www.cheshirewildlifetrust.org.uk/mywild lifegarden. Entry on the day will be £6, with children free. 14 www.frodshamlife.co.uk July 2019 Police launch appeal after two men receive serious injuries in street altercation
