It features review papers, research papers, short communications, correspondence, IAU reports and book reviews. Papers on all aspects of astronomical history are considered, including studies that place the evolution of astronomy in political, economic and cultural contexts. Papers on astronomical heritage may deal with historic telescopes and observatories, conservation projects (including the conversion of historic observatories into museums of astronomy), and historical or industrial archaeological investigations of astronomical sites and buildings. All papers are refereed prior to publication. There are no page charges, and in lieu of reprints authors are sent a pdf or Word camera-ready version of their paper so that they can generate their own reprints on demand. Prospective authors may download the ‘Guide for Authors’ from http://www.narit.or.th/en/files/GuideforAuthors.pdf or request it from Professor Wayne Orchiston (wayne. [email protected]). Intending contributors should carefully follow these guidelines when preparing manuscripts. -

Geographic range of G. varsoviensis includes Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus and Ukraine. Such a distribution pattern led us to the assumption that the species might have originated in the Black Sea drainage area. From there, as early as the nineteenth century, it could possibly have migrated to the Baltic basin through the Pripyat-Bug canal. Thus, the goals of this study are: (1) to indicate the level of genetic divergence of G. varsoviensis from the morphologically closest species – G. lacustris and (2) to investigate the possibility of the Pontic origin of G. varsoviensis and its range expansion across the Black Sea/Baltic Sea watershed to Central Europe through the artificial canal network. Altogether 128 partial 16S rDNA sequences of Gammarus varsoviensis from 19 localities were gained. -

Khominets Z.D., Salyzhyn Yu.,Bohoslavets V.V., Voloshyn Yu.D. e SEFDR Nezalezhnist started to work in the Black Sea The Nezalezhnist self-elevating floating drilling rig (SEFDR) started drilling its first well in the Black Sea on February 01, 2013. These works are performed in Arkhangelsk gas field within the scope of the production plan of Chornomornaftogaz for 2013, which foresees a 40 % increase in production in the area of Black and Azov Sea shelves – from 1,17 to 1,65 billion m3 of natural gas. With the support of Naftogaz of Ukraine, the Chornomornaftogaz PJSC is performing a large- scale production upgrade, which will give the company an opportunity to reach an output rate of 5 m3 of natural gas starting in 2013, and to triple its annual gas production and open several new hydrocarbon fields during next three years. The Nezalezhnist self-elevating floating drilling rig which is provided with modern equipment and, along with Petro Hodovanets SEFDR, is one of the most hi-tech and high-capacity SEFDR in the Black Sea region. -

The original idea was to offer a conference program with a plenary oral presentation at a venue located in the Śnieżnik Mountains (in the Sudetes) combined with field sessions in the Sudeten caves, the Giant Mountains (Karkonosze) and the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland.
