  • Mastodon's New Album Once More 'Round the Sun Debuts
For Immediate Release: MASTODON’S NEW ALBUM ONCE MORE ’ROUND THE SUN DEBUTS AT NO. 6 ON BILLBOARD CHART - THEIR HIGHEST U.S. CHART DEBUT EVER! THE NEW ALBUM IS ALSO TOP 20 AROUND THE WORLD ABC’S JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE CONFIRMED FOR SEPTEMBER 15TH July 2, 2014 — (Burbank, CA) — Once More ’Round The Sun, the sixth studio album from Mastodon, has debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. This marks their highest chart debut ever. In addition, this album released by Reprise Records on June 24th, has gone Top 10 in most European markets and top 20 in most remaining territories. Once More ’Round The Sun has also entered the Top 10 Album Charts in the U.K. as well where it is currently the No. 1 Rock/Metal album across the nation; yet another milestone for Mastodon. Fans and critics agree, this is the best Mastodon album yet: “The mercurial metal heads have improved on the lean hard-rock pummel of 2011’s The Hunter with lattices of ornate riffs and primal vocals… the band sounds best when taking risks.” – Rolling Stone “Album after album, Mastodon set the pace for modern heavy metal. Their brand of aggression is brainy, technically dazzling and slightly hallucinogenic – metal for people who don’t usually listen to metal. At the same time, the band is balls-out creative. ‘Elegant’ isn’t a term usually associated with neck-tatted, acid-eating heshers but check out Bill Kelliher’s guitar riff verses Brent Hinds’ guitar solo versus Brann Dailor’s double-time drums.

Heart Wood® Cellars Photo By: Tim Fuller DRINKING IN THE VERDE VALLEY How the hills and deserts of central Arizona gave birth to some of the boldest wines in America. FEBRUARY 7, 2018 When Californians Valerie and Daniel Wood purchased a second home in Arizona’s Verde River Valley in the early aughts, they were surprised by the quality of the wines they found. Many of them were comparable to the ones they drank back home; they also compared favorably with the Grenaches, Syrahs, and Cabernets they’d enjoyed in the southern wine-growing regions of Italy, France, and Spain. “But what intrigued us the most was the idea of wine grapes growing in the desert,” Valerie says. “So, we spent some time talking to people about them.” They learned that the Verde Valley has many similarities, both in elevation and climate, to more celebrated wine regions, including—yes—the south of France, Italy, and Spain. “Those growing regions are around 30 to 50 degrees latitude,” Valerie says. “Here, it’s 34 degrees. As for the extreme heat of the Grand Canyon State, it’s not as big a problem as it seems. “The elevation affords us a cooling off period during the evening,” she says. “It gives grapes time to rest and prepare for the next day of sun and heat.” She also says the terroir, which ranges sporadically from limestone rich soil to desert sand, also produces bold wines with fascinating, and at times unique, profiles. When they bought the house in Arizona, the Woods were working high-power corporate jobs at McDonald’s.

  • Provisioner Bona Fide Pure Arizona, Arizona White Table Wine 2014, 57
Provisioner Bona Fide Pure Arizona, Arizona White Table Wine 2014, 57% Colombard, 30% Chenin Blanc, 13% Malvasia 13.3% Alc • The Provisioner White is fresh, crisp and fruity with perfect amount of body. It’s wonderful as an accompaniment to a light lunch, with serious dinner foods and, of course, all by itself. • In early frontier days the small-town general store was the social hub and lifeline for the hardy pioneers that settled the American Southwest. These stores, or provisioners, sold everything from nails to flour, blankets to whiskey. Arizona, despite efforts to tame her, is still a wild place with many secrets lying just below the surface. The most recent discovery is the propensity for the vine to thrive here and to yield a fine nectar that is indisputably Southwestern. Provisioner wines capture and share the soul of this place, and they do so in the spirit of the old-time general store: they support new exploration, they push us into new territory and make this quest we are on a little more honest and enjoyable. And all of this without breaking the bank. Drink well. These are wines for the people! • Fort Bowie Vineyard, Cochise County, Arizona • Fort Bowie Vineyards is the second oldest vineyard in the state. Planted in 1984, the massive French Colombard vines on the site are a big as a foot in trunk diameter. Additionally, the deep, loamy soils and warm summers (the warmest of our vineyards) lend to fruit driven wines that are approachable and young. • At an elevation of 3750 feet, Fort Bowie has two distinct vineyards, the Shop block and Lacey’s block.

I owe my first thanks to my Dissertation Committee and all the faculty associated with the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies, Sociology, and Religious Studies. I cannot express enough thanks to Dr. Ralph Armbruster-Sandoval who served as the chairman of my committee and was the first to provide me unyielding support in a cutting-edge program. I am also truly grateful for Dr. Inés Casillas and Dr. Rudy Busto who continued to make themselves available for feedback, conversations, and encouragement throughout the years. I could not have finished had it not been for their guidance and keen observations. I am also appreciative of Dr. Mario T. Garcia, Dr. Gerardo Aldana, and Dr. Peter J. • U.S. Judge Defends Ban on Jury Trials
SUNDAY,FEBRUARY 7, 2021 /// Times Community News publication serving Orange County /// timesoc.com U.S. judge defends ban on jury trials U.S. District Judge Josephine Staton says the federal court’s decision to indefinitely halt jury trials makes sense as the pandemic continues. BY MEGHANN M. CUNIFF Afederal judge defending the court’s pan- demic-related prohibition on jury trials said her stateside counterparts in Orange County Superior Court aren’t tracking jurors after trials end, so it’s impossible to know how many people have been infected through them. “How do you know it wasn’t spread throughout the community because of the trial? How do you know someone’s grand- mother wasn’t hospitalized because she came into contact with the juror?” said U.S. District Judge Josephine Staton. Speaking to attorneys during a recent Zoom hearing, Staton said the last few months of increasing coronavirus infections in Orange County means “someone is doing something wrong, not right” and justifies the decision to indefinitely halt jury trials. Staton was responding to a defense attor- ney’s opposition to a trial delay, but she also was addressing her colleague U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney’s ongoing criticism of the ban. Carney has dismissed four criminal cases, including a robbery case and two gun indictments, because he believes the indefi- Sean M.
