Northern Illinois University 1. Introduction2 The origin of man'yo:gana, the phonetic writing system used by the Japanese who originally had no script, is shrouded in mystery and myth. There is even a tradition that prior to the importation of Chinese script, the Japanese had a native script of their own, known as jindai moji ( , age of the gods script). The objects examined include one such handscroll painting, several illustrated books from the Sakamaki-Hawley Collection, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Library, and Hokusai Ryūkyū Hakkei, an 1832 series of eight landscape prints depicting sites in Okinawa. Drawing upon previous scholarship on the role of popular publishing in forming conceptions of “Japan” or of “national identity” at this time, a media discourse approach is employed to argue that such publications can serve as reliable indicators of understandings

Introduction It is a great honor and pleasure for me to be able to speak to you today. In recent years, the environment surrounding Japan's payment and settlement systems has gone through various changes. On the demand side, consumers seek more convenient payment services, such as those available during the nighttime and on holidays or low-cost international remittance services. Diversified lifestyles and the spread of e-commerce businesses have contributed to this. On the supply side, new devices -- such as smartphones and IC cards -- enabling the public to access payment services have continued to expand. In addition to traditional financial institutions, non-bank firms with strong capabilities in information technologies, or so-called FinTech firms, have started to provide cashless payments services. As central banks have a responsibility to improve the safety and efficiency of payment and settlement systems, their future landscape in the digital age is an extremely important topic for us. In fact, whether central banks should issue digital currencies as a payment instrument substituting for cash (banknotes and coins) has become an important issue. Digital currencies issued by central banks are called "central bank digital currencies" (CBDCs). The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) conducted an interesting survey on central bank initiatives for CBDC (Figure 1). Among the 63 respondent central banks, about 70 percent are engaged in CBDC work, most of which is in the form of research/study or experiments/proof-of-concept.

Introduction This is a guide to the modern Japanese version of the traditional four-player Chinese tabletop game of mahjong, this variant also being known as Riichi Mahjong or Reach Mahjong. I've previously written several guides to specific mahjong video-games (these can all be accessed from my GameFAQs contributor page) but I decided to produce a new, general, resource which will be useful to people playing on any mahjong video-game or website, reading mahjong manga, watching mahjong anime or perhaps even playing the game with real tiles! Since I've already included lists of mahjong terms in some of my previous guides and I want to place an emphasis on explaining the terminology used in the game, I've decided to produce this in the form of a non-alphabetical glossary, with detailed definitions for each entry, terms given in Japanese text, categorised sections and hyperlinks between them.

    A few tips - Pre and post Delivery of the baby…… These tips are traditional from personal experience only. In case of any medical conditions, please consult your doctor without fail…… Before Delivery: 1. Once 9th month starts give every day Raw Methi Powder (not boiled or roasted) with pure cow ghee and a little Jaggery (gur) . Make small marble size balls. If you wish you may add any dryfruits like kismis, fig, dates etc. but do not add sugar. 2. 15 days before delivery, boil water with ½ tsp. soonth (dry ginger powder)small piece of pipri mul, little jiggery and give ¼ cup every day. 3. Last 7 days, give a glass of hot milk with a few strands of saffron, ½ to one tsp. of Black Pepper powder, 1tsp of cow ghee…Drink it hot once a day helps in quick and smooth delivery. 4. Take care of stretch marks apply any good oil or moisturiser on you tummy and thighs once you begin to show up. 5. Take care of your breasts. From 7th- 8th month onwards while having warm bath, once or twice a week, rub your breasts in circular motion with your palms and pull out your nipples gently. This will help baby to latch on easily. Apply a drop of oil too. Stay active but do not exert too much. Relax you will need all your stamina later. After Delivery 1. From the first day onwards give Heera Bor (you will get at any ayurvedic store; it comes in little crystals like gum (gunder). Take care that it does not touch the teeth and so you should wrap the small crystal (size of a chana dal) in gur or butter and swallowed……Alternately, powder Heera Bor and buy empty capsules from a chemist and put the powder in it (this is what I do).
