S fitocenološko tabelo smo prikazali traviščne združbe na Banj- šicah in na Kanalskem Kolovratu, na stiku predalpskega, submediteranskega in dinarskega fitogeografskega območja Slovenije. Abstract In our survey of floristic novelties from the Soča Valley and its immediate vicinity (western and northwestern Slovenia) we describe new localities, sites and community conditions of the following taxa: Arabis scopoliana Boiss., Chlorocrepis staticifolia (All.) Griseb. (= Hieracium staticifolium All.), Epipogium aphyllum (F.W. Schmidt) Sw., Eritrichium nanum (L.) Gaud., Gladiolus illyricus Koch, Herminium monorchis (L.) R. Br., Iris sibirica L. subsp. erirrhiza (Pospichal) T. Wraber, Lemna gibba L., Leontodon hispidus L. subsp. brumatii (Schiede ex Reichenb) T. Wraber, Luzula nivea (L.) DC., Trifolium arvense L. and Viola pyrenaica Ramond. In the phytosociological table we have presented the grassland communities on the Banjščice plateau and on the Kanalski Kolovrat range, i.e. at the contact of the pre-Alpine, sub-Mediterranean and Dinaric phytogeographical region of Slovenia. Ključne besede: flora, travišča, Banjšice, Kanalski Kolovrat, zahodna in severozahodna Slovenije, Posočje Key words: flora, grassland communities, the Banjšice plateau, the Kanalski Kolovrat range, western and northwestern Slovenia, the Soča Valley 1. Detajlno smo vzor~evali spodnjih 6,20 metrov profila. V komaj 6,20 m debelem profilu smo odkrili tri globotrunkanske cone: Helvetotruncana helvetica (3-5 cm), Dicarinella concavata (120 cm) in Dicarinella asymetrica (490 cm). Abstract In the western part of Julian Alps in many places small erosion remains of Late Cretaceous pelagic, light grey and reddish limestones and marls (scaglia) are preserved.

Using recession curve analysis, the extent of the Glijun spring catchment area has been determined. Catchment areas, draining, and the location of a karst watershed depend on the quantity of water in the aquifer. Due to the overlapping of the catchment areas of various springs, the dumping of dangerous wastes in the high mountains can cause the pollution of many springs. Because the aquifers in the limestone and dolomite Kanin massif are closely linked to those in the Quaternary sediments of the Bovec Basin, pro- tecting the high mountain karst also protects the sources of potable water in the valley. • Exploring Slovenia's Julian Alps and Beyond
Exploring Slovenia’s Julian Alps and Beyond: two treks and Balkan culture in an undiscovered corner of the Alps August 27 – September 10, 2022 (trip# 2261) Triglav National Park Overview Join us for a wonderful fifteen-day trip to the undiscovered hiking and scenic paradise of Slovenia. We will pass medieval castles, churches, and traditional mountain villages as we walk through valleys, across mountain pastures, and traverse mountain ridges with towering peaks all around us. This trip combines two rugged short treks (one carrying all our gear and staying in mountain huts, and the other staying in hotels with luggage transport), an exciting ascent to Slovenia’s highest peak, and visits to the most scenic and interesting regions of this small, but incredibly beautiful country. 1 A few words about Slovenia itself: it is a small country located in southern central Europe at the intersection of major trade routes and of the Slavic, Germanic, and Romance languages and cultures. Historically part of many empires including Rome, Austro-Hungarian, Venice, and France, it is currently a prosperous, democratic European country of two million persons. Over 50% of its landmass remains forested. It is exceptionally bio-diverse for its size particularly as pertains to endemic cave species. Slovenia’s Place in Europe Trip Difficulty This trip is rated 5/6 - vigorous. Excluding breaks, we will hike from five to seven hours per day, between 6 and 14 miles, with an average elevation gain of about 2500 feet. The terrain is rugged and steep in places, and requires agility. There will be sections on narrow trails with exposure (steep drop-offs).

The Hollow Mountain Exploring the deep caves of Tolminski Migovec, Slovenia 1974 – 2006 I.C.C.C. The panorama across the top is the view of the peaks from Tolminski Migovec, taken by Jarvist Frost in October 2006. The photograph on the back page was taken by Dave Wilson in 2004 near the termination of Gardeners’ World cave. Line survey prepared using Survex. Abstract This report documents the cave exploration on the Migovec Plateau, near Tolmin in the Julian Alps, Slovenia between 1974 and 2006. Between 1974 and 1985 exploration was carried out by members of the Caving Section of the Tolmin alpine club (JSPDT) and 17 cave entrances were logged. There were two major finds in this period: firstly M2 (Kavkna Jama), a tight rift cave which was pushed to -350m between 1974 and 1978 and included the impressive 120m shaft ‘Silos’; and secondly, M16 , which was pushed to -547m between the years of 1982 and 1985 and included the huge chamber of Galactica. These caves were ranked amongst the deepest caves in Yugoslavia (as it then was). After 1985, exploration stopped on the Migovec plateau until the Imperial College Caving Club (ICCC) started a series of summer expeditions working with the JSPDT from 1994 to 2006.
