Lieutenant Colonel Retired, Angela Marie Greenewald was born and raised in the Schenectady, area. After graduating from The College of Saint Rose she was commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer in 1998. LTC Greenewald’s first assignments included being a Battery Executive Officer in Echo Battery, 1/79th Field Artillery Battalion as well as serving as one of the first female Battery Executive Officer in a Field Artillery Basic Combat Training, Training and Development Command course.

After attending the Transportation Officer Branch Qualification Course in 2000, LTC Greenewald served as a Platoon Leader in the 15th Transportation Company, 19th Maintenance Battalion at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Following this assignment LTC Greenewald served in the 302nd Forward Support Battalion in Camp Casey, Korea as the Battalion Adjutant and then attended the Combined Logistics Officer Advanced Course in Fort Lee Virginia.

As a Movement Control Detachment Commander for Corps Support Command, , she deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom I where she was responsible for the reception, staging, onward movement and integration of men and material initially from the Seaport of Embarkation in Shuaiba Port, Kuwait to forward staging location; and then ran the Airport of Embarkation in Tallil Air Base, throughout theater, particularly Baghdad in support of the main effort. Returning to Korea in 2004, LTC Greenewald commanded a company in Area III in Camp Humphreys, Korea.

In 2005, LTC Greenewald graduated from the Civil Affairs Qualification Course, Regional Studies Course with a focus on Africa and French language training and was subsequently assigned to the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne). While in this Battalion, LTC Greenewald served as a Civil Affairs Team Leader deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom V, as a Company Operations Officer, and as a Company Commander.

In 2009, she continued to serve in Operation Enduring Freedom, as a Civil Affairs Planner for Special Operations Command Forward – Pakistan; she remained as the Senior Civil Affairs Advisor to the Commander. Her duties included daily interaction and engagement with the Department of State, U.S. Country Team, USAID, USAID/OTI and the Office of Defense Representative and Security Assistance offices. Her primary duties were to identify locations in which the Civil Military Support Element forwardly deployed to Peshawar, Pakistan could provide complimentary efforts to other organizations operating within the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

In 2010, LTC Greenewald continued to support Operation Enduring Freedom as the Civil Military Support Element Commander where she commanded Civil Affairs Teams in Yemen, Tajikistan and Pakistan.

In 2012, LTC Greenewald attended Intermediate Level Education (ILE) at Fort Lee, Virginia. She subsequently received an Interagency Fellowship where she served in the U.S. Agency for International Development, Office of Transition Initiatives supporting Afghanistan and Pakistan desks.

In 2013, LTC Greenewald served in the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC), Commander's Initiative Group (CIG) where she worked on special projects supporting the Commanding General.

In 2015, LTC Greenewald served as the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade Operations Officer at Fort Bragg, NC. In 2016, LTC Greenewald commanded the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne) until 2018 where she served as the Special Operations Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve J9 and commanded six Civil Affairs Company focused on the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility.

In 2018, LTC Greenewald served as the Director of the Commander’s Initiatives Group (CIG) in the John F, Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School working on specializing in projects supporting the Commanding General as well as serving as the interim Executive Officer to the Commanding General.

LTC Greenewald’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of the Arts in Public Communications from The College of Saint Rose, a Master of Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma and a Master’s Certificate in Developing Healthy Communities as well as a Master’s Certificate in Global Nutrition Programming from Tufts University.

Her military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation with four Oak Leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Humanitarian Service Medal, Combat Action Badge and Parachutist Badge.
