Miftahul Huda, S.Hum Key Words: Psychology, Psycho Pedagogic. Everybody knows that either psychology or literature are two different science’s disciplines. We know that literature is related to the fiction world such: drama, novel, poems, essay which are classified as the art, whereas psychology is referred to scientific study concerning with the human behave and mental process. Although they are different, but both are having the similarity that is literature and psychology are started from humankind and life as the analysis source. Miracle Worker which is written by William Gibson is a drama that tells about Helen Keller, a young girl who losses her sight and hearing senses since nineteenth month because of an illness that is diagnosed as acute congestion of stomach and brain. This physical exceptional condition creates many difficulties and limits which affect to the psychological condition of the child. It also influences Helen’s emotion and behavior that seems to be naughty, wild, quick tempered and uncivilized child. Therefore, the family tries to find the solution to overcome Helen’s psychological problems. Education intervenes is the effort to solve Helen’s psychological problems, and during the learning process the methods which are applied is indicated as psycho pedagogic principles. Thus, this study is aimed at finding the psychological problems of Helen Keller, the causes and effects of Helen’s exceptional condition. Then, the researcher tries to describe the education intervenes that is indicated as Psycho pedagogic principles to solve Helen’s psychological problems. To achieve the above objectives of the study, this study is categorized as literary criticism since this study is emphasized on the analysis of a literary work. The primary data of this study are collected from William Gibson’s Miracle Worker. The researcher applies a psychological approach especially Kirk’s theories which are talking about the psychological perspective of exceptional children. Based on the result of analysis, Psychological problems of Helen Keller which are portrayed in the drama i.e. feeling different from other children, very depended on other people, easy to be angry, isolated, and unable to control the emotion. After identifying and analyzing the efforts of education intervenes to solve Helen’s psychological problems, the researcher finds that learning methods which are applied in the process of education is containing the psycho pedagogic principles such: Aids Principle, Readiness Principle, Individual Services Principle, Skill Principle, Love and Affection Principle, Self Supporting, Self Care, Self Help, and Self Concept. In this delightful book, David Wagner proposes to do just that with Franklin Benjamin Sanborn and Annie Sullivan Macy, even as he points out the pitfalls of such an approach. The theme of the book is social status and the worldviews that go with it. Disability--Sullivan’s visual impairment and Helen Keller’s deaf-blindness--is responsible for the contacts between Sanborn and Sullivan, but their differences (and commonalities) derive from other sources. Sanborn (1831-1917)--considerably better known in his own time than today--was a younger contemporary of the New England transcendentalists. An admirer of Samuel Gridley Howe (1801-76), Sanborn deeply respected Howe’s work as the first director of the Perkins School for the Blind. Sanborn joined Howe as a member of the “Secret Six” funders of John Brown and, after Brown’s failed 1859 raid at Harper’s Ferry, the two men together avoided arrest by fleeing to Canada.

    Know Them, Raise Them, Be Them Sampler Helen Keller,1880-1968 CE Nineteen months after Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama on June 27, 1880, she lost her hearing and sight after a bout of scarlet fever. Five years later, Alexander Graham Bell himself referred her parents to a specialized teacher, Anne Sullivan, from the Perkins Institute for the Blind in Boston. With Anne’s tutelage, Helen learned to read and write with braille, and to communicate with hand signals. Aided by an interpreter she would go on to study at schools for the deaf. At the age of sixteen she entered the Cambridge School for Young Ladies in Massachusetts, eventually becoming the first deaf-blind person to attain a bachelor’s degree. Helen came to understand that people in poor economic circumstances were more likely to be blind than others, and soon connected the mistreatment of the blind to the oppression of workers, women, and other groups. This led to her embrace of socialism, feminism, pacifism, birth control, and women’s suffrage. From her own experience she developed a strong belief in the potential of every human being, famously stating that “we know that everyone has something positive to contribute to the world around them—if they are given the chance.” Helen became a celebrity at an early age for overcoming her disabilities. Stories of her life inspired a movie, Deliverance in 1919, as well as the Pulitzer Prize winning play and movie “The Miracle Worker”. She even spent several years performing on the vaudeville stage to educate the public and to support herself.

These affordable performances offer access to a wide variety of art disciplines for K-12 students. The series also offers the opportunity for students from the Reich College of Education to view a field trip in action without having to leave campus. Among the 2013-2014 series performers, you will find those who will also be featured in the Performing Arts Series along with professional artists chosen specifically for our student audience as well as performances by campus groups. All shows in the 2013-2014 series are performed at the newly renovated Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. 1 Before you arrive. HELEN KELLER IN WORDS AND SOUND - PART 2 This image depicts the cottage at Ivy Green—the name for the Keller home in Tuscumbia, Alabama—where Helen Keller and her teacher, Anne Sullivan, were living in April of 1877. Near the cottage is the now-famous pump where Anne helped Helen to understand that the letters she was signing into the child’s palm stood for the liquid substance that was coming out of the pump. At that moment, Helen's world completely changed. She was able to learn thirty words that same day. By the 5th of April, 1877, Annie Sullivan had made great progress with Helen. But the child was still incorrigible and particularly unruly when she was around her family. While walking between the main house and the cottage, Anne spotted people at the water pump. Might this be a good time to teach Helen about water? As water poured over one of Helen's hands, Anne fingerspelled the word "w-a-t-e-r" in the other. Suddenly ... a change came over Helen's face. She began to understand: What her teacher was spelling in the palm of one hand stood for what was pouring over the other. Helen later wrote about that moment of awakening, when she first realized the meaning and power of language: We walked down the path to the well-house, attracted by the fragrance of the honey-suckle with which it was covered.
