However, there have been dozens of objections to the plan as the car park will be built on green belt land. Protesters filled the South Staffordshire council hall, many of whom were wearing T-shirts that read no to the car park, but their efforts were in vain as a statement from Kodsall Parish Council, which owns the land, was approved. There were mixed views from district councillors during the lengthy debate over whether a parking plan should be allowed to pass, but many insisted it was desperately needed. Parking will be Oaken Lane, near Codsall Railway Station. People who live in Chapel Lane, Broadway and Long Acre Long Acre Complaints about cars left outside their homes by passengers catching the train to work. Codsall Parish Council chairman Brian Holland said at the meeting: The simple fact is we need to do something about the problem of car parking. Citizens are trying to solve this issue and put an end to the decline of their lives from parking on the street. Councillor Kat Parry said: 'My view if it's not allowed going forward the village will be choking on cars. Drivers will park anywhere they can find a place. Codsall councillor John Michel said the car park was supported in general in the village and said the activists present were a small group of vociferous objectors. But some councillors were unhappy in letting the green belt land go, including planning committee chairman Brian Cox, who said he was disappointed when he saw the site was a large open field. Councillor Bernard Williams added: 'Here's the box, let's put some specific. Our land of the green belt is precious, like everyone else. Some areas don't have much green belt and we need to protect it. Emotions ran high after the decision, which was held by 21 votes to eight, with some activists making their feelings known to the council, one shouting shame at you as she left. Resident Stacey Khan, aged 53, said: We are very disappointed with this result from the predominantly Conservative council. I feel that it will bring little or all benefit to society as a whole. Stephen Skinner insisted campaigners were willing to fight and could take the case to the Local Government Ombudsman. He said: I am deeply disappointed. They ignored all the people they should serve and represent. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION A resident asked about information from Public Health England, could more information be given on this when putting on the Parish Council website regarding Covid-19. The resident also suggested perhaps it would be a good idea to have a “Good Citizen Award” for the people of Codsall who volunteer their time to helping out in the village. An allotment holder of Watery lane raised concerns over the prolonged closure of the allotment site and the way this was communicated to the whole community. Allotment holders could not retrieve their tools, water was not turned back on until 26th May. Allotments should be a key industry, instead heavy-handed approach, damage to health and welfare, the closure was unwarranted. Chairman Cllr Holland said the Parish Council took the advice from the Cabinet Office and opened the allotments when it became practical to do so. The Treasurer of Codsall PCC spoke with regards to their recent grant application of £6,000.00. The Treasurer advised the meeting that for the past 11 years, this amount has not increased.

    Official Guide THE STAFFORDSHIRE WAY ABOUT THE STAFFORDSHIRE WAY Long Distance footpath The Staffordshire Way is a long distance footpath which has been established by Staffordshire County Council. It spans the length of the County for 92 miles from Mow Cop to Kinver Edge. The route is based wholly on public rights of way or paths on which access has been granted. The Way is not one of the national long distance routes designated by the Countryside Commission, but has been created by the County Council to respond to a recognised demand for access to the Contents Page countryside. The route explores some of Staffordshire’s loveliest scenery and several of its most interesting towns and villages, as well as linking country parks and picnic places. ABOUT THE STAFFORDSHIRE WAY 2 - 3 Easy accessibility for as many people as possible was an essential factor in determining the route, so the Way starts just to the north of Stoke-on-Trent and Location Map 4 later runs close to the West Midlands Conurbation. To many people the Key to Route Maps 5 Staffordshire Way is virtually ‘on the doorstep’. The first 32 mile section of the Way from Mow Cop to Rocester opened in the spring of 1977 and proved to be a great success, receiving a commendation in the British Tourist Authority’s ‘Come to Britain’ awards for the best new tourist facilities of the year. The second stage PART ONE - GRITSTONE COUNTRY of the Way to Cannock Chase opened two years later, and the route was completed AND THE CHURNET VALLEY in 1983.
