Our March meeting was held in Eathorpe Village Hall and we invited the Off- church Afternoon Club to join us. We enjoyed a talk by Duncan Brown on the history of the very successful Pilgrim Puppets. We then had a demonstration with Duncan, Hazel and Marcia showing us how these clever puppets work. As always a very enjoyable tea and for our April meeting we are going to see “Cats” at the Spa Centre. CONGRATULATIONS to Rudi & John Hancock of The Coach House - On their 60th Wedding Anniversary 0n Tuesday 26th March. What an achievement! HUNNINGHAM PARISH COUNCIL is looking for two new parish councillors. What does the role of parish councillor involve? This is a voluntary role whose main purpose is to represent the views of the residents within the parish. Other purposes include deciding how much to raise by way of precept in order to deliver the council's services, helping to influence and shape any long term development in the parish, commenting on planning applications, identifying issues that are important to the resi- dents of the parish, working to bring about improvements through local pro- jects, lobbying other service providers and working in partnership with other parishes and agencies. The Joint Parish Council (Wappenbury, Hunningham, Eathorpe and Off- church) meets once every two months and typically considers issues relating to highways, police matters, planning, finance and HS2. This is an opportunity to contribute towards matters relating to your local community. If you live in the village and are on the Register of Electors and would be in- terested in becoming a parish councillor or want to know more about the role, can you please contact Margaret Green at the following e-mail address. And this month there might be another photo when Margot comes to St Mar- garet’s for her ‘dunking’! I have proba- bly said it before, and I will say it again: tiny children are pretty well irresistible, aren’t they; so much potential in one so small; and the glow you feel when a babe smiles back at you or is simply content to be nestled in your arms! All that delight comes our way only after the painful business of childbirth. And you ladies know more about that than us men! My own recollections of the birth of my first child can be sum- marised in three words: scary, surreal and awesome. At the same time I was under pressure to appear confident for my wife and blasé for the midwives. And I was only the father of the child! Meanwhile Mrs. P. had the tough end of the deal. We have just celebrated Mothering Sunday and made a fuss of our mothers and wives, to acknowledge the vital part they play in sowing the seeds of love in the next generation. I am thinking that there is an important lesson to be learned here: when we yearn for things to be better, there is no short cut. We have to go through the labour pains to get to the place of smiles and de- light. Our political commentators tell us that these are unprecedented times, with things happening in the House of Commons that have never happened before. Everyone can see that something momentous is happening. At the same 7 time, we are witnessing a decline in our social cohesion, with fracture lines prominent on the landscape of public life. One of the encounters recorded in the Gospel of St John was between Jesus and a Jewish leader called Nicodemus. The latter congratulated Jesus on his performance so far, but then got confused about the meaning of Jesus’ chal- lenge about ‘being born again’. Jesus went on to explain that this re-birth is about getting into line with God’s pattern for creation. At this point, we revis- it the thought that any kind of re-birth must have an inevitable element of pain. Jesus taught that a world in turmoil would be characterised by ‘the be- ginning of the birth-pains’. So where does this all fit together here in our bit of Warwickshire? Well, it simply remains to announce that your local churches are embracing re-birth. We do not know where it will take us, or what it will look like. But we are committing to going through the pain, to get to a new place, where everyone in our community, young, middling and old, can find a place of belonging and life. We believe that God has a blueprint and we are in the business of help- ing to make it happen. This month, we are signalling our being born again, when on Palm Sunday, 14th April at 10.00am Bishop Christopher, the Bishop of Coventry is coming to St Gregory’s Church in Offchurch, to lead our worship. We are asking him to bless this new beginning and set us on our way, as we uncover God’s plan here in our 5 villages. Sunday the 9th March saw the annual Puppets and Pancakes event at Hun- ningham Church. The Church filled up quite quickly with excited children ac- companied by equally excited adults. The programme began with a perfor- mance to the song 'This is Me', which the Pilgrim puppets took to the Euro- pean championships this year and came first in their category.
